I think it is time to form a political action committee for the purpose of enacting legislation to make it a Federal crime to misrepresent information in the media. We all know what Hanoi John is doing. But CNN needs to be tossed out of the USA. I watched them air a summary yesterday and they intentionally misrepresented the facts and positioned HJFK as being the person who called for everything the 9/11 Commission recommended.

I'm not at all sorry that media companies do not enjoy the same rights guaranteed to Citizens in the USA. It is time to make this difference known and to revoke the licenses of any media outlet that distorts the facts regardless of how insignificant the facts are.

That ought to eliminate the power of the DNC. They won't be able to brainwash the mentally ill masses anymore.

I was thinking the same thing - "Truth in Reporting" standards, watchdogs, penalties... Very Happy if we think we're seeing something now, can you just imagine how they'd all implode!! What? More than gossip and opinions? This is.. this is UN-American!!

There are so many people like myself who got disgusted with all the hypocrisy and lies spewed by the major networks and media organizations. The major source of my getting news right now is through the internet, as major newsbreaks are being reported much sooner and there is more thought and depth displayed by blogsites. The "fair and balance" advertised is a bunch of B.S., and everybody can conclude that for Kerry, it is true that CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC are his most faithful "band of brothers." I can't remember the last time I watched CNN for political commentaries.

Relax guys...

CNN isn't that bad. After all, the people at D.U. hate it just as much as you guys do and are convinced it's a right wing propaganda source.
CNN can't be THAT bad if they aggravate the left that much.

Besides, network news is old media. They're done for, just like MTV, because it's in their nature to turn into entertainment, once "news AS entertainment" became a reality.

The people who matter, meaning those whose minds aren't made up and who want to find out what's going on... THEY will use the new media (the internet) to get the information they need.

Its unfortunate but true. The MSM and the cable guys are “profit motive – down and dirty”. They want a close election, its better for the ratings. They will do what it takes to keep it close.

The Swiftboat ads might convince a few, but remember that half the electorate don’t even know the VP’s name or can find England on a map, let alone understand the nuances related to the truth about the medals

The best we can do is to use the inter net. I suggest you e-mail everybody you know and just list a few “sound bite” size reasons why you are not voting for Kerry.

No, I believe the best we can do, is have a campaign to raise funds to turn Unfit for Command into a documentary with updates.

The problem with that is that it puts the federal government in charge of the truth. Sure, on many issues, the truth is clear. But on most, it's not. I don't want government deciding what is true and what isn't.

Moreover, that goes against the 1st amendment anyway.

It's better to break the media monopoly via web sites like this one.

There is a way to counter the media and that is to turn the channel. If they slander someone then sue em. The major media has lost a lot of viewership for a reason.

Be of strong heart and of good cheer. Every time you come in contact with Independent News Networks and Free Radio Talk Forums, take the opportunity to thank them for demonstrating fidelity to the truth.

The existence of Independent News Networks and Talk Radio shows is directly related to the irresponsible journalism relating to the Vietnam War and post Vietnam War era - this irresponsibility gave rise to the need of a new form a media - not only to serve in the capacity of being the traditional "Watchdog of the Government" and the "Eyes and Ears of the Public" - to keep the public informed - but, also to serve in the capacity of holding the MSM accountable for their reporting.

In 1971, the MSN was accountable to no one - this has been progressively changing and if the MSM continues to practice a lack of truth in reporting or use underhanded tactics in manipulating the truth or mischaracterizing the actual state of events - they will lose their credibility in the eyes of the people. Their credibility has indeed taken a severe blow in the past 25 years.

I anticipate that, unless they change their approach to the truth, their credibility will be equivalent to that of the National Enquirer.

Hello....

The Swift Vets story and the role of the Internet/bloggers is one of the biggest stories of the decade! This story represents a breakthough against the monoploy held by the MSM - why do you think they resisted so fiercely? They completely resent that this was taken out of their hands.

Watch out when the lion is roused from slumber...it's one of the reasons things have been so nasty these past 3 weeks.

Just keep reading the blogs and not watching the tv....

I watch for recipes, fashions, and outdoor concerts - but, as for news - they lost credibility a long time ago - I watch the Independents News Networks and Radio Talk Forums, their on-site reporting and investigative skills are far superior than that of the MSM's.

I'm very disappointed with the MSM's of the early '70's - they failed to investigate the credibility of John Kerry and the validity of the "veterans" that he was representing. The laziness and malicious irresponsibilty of the MSM's resulted in the biggest scam ever ran by the liberal left of Congress, anti-war activists and media that deceived a whole nation.

I would caution anyone that thinks another law or the government is needed to monitor "truth" in the media. Too often, "truth" is defined by people's opinions. Therefore competition and a free open press is the best answer. Back to the wisdom of our founders. If something is so blatant to qualify as slander, then I think a person has the right to sue, although I think the threshold would be more difficult for a campaign. One thing that is not mentioned much is if the Swift Vets are blatantly lying, Kerry could perhaps sue for slander. I'm talking about actual facts concerning specific incidents, which could be documented by official Navy records. He is not doing that, which is further proof to me that the Swift Vets are pretty close if not right on the truth on most everything. Also, hopefully there are enough people that are still smart enough to figure out the bias of reporting, which will eventually swing the pendulum back to a more sensible balance. Good example being the rising popularity of talk radio and alternative news sources.
