Don't know if this is a dupe thread; I didn't see anything recently.

Kerry will address the American Legion in Nashville, TN on Wednesday, 9/1.

Do we have any vets in the area who can show up? It might be worthwhile to print up and hand out these words from Kerry's close of "The New Soldier":

Quote:
We will not quickly join those who march on Veterans' Day waving small flags, calling to memory those thousands who died for the "greater glory of the United States." We will not accept the rhetoric. We will not readily join the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars -in fact, we will find it hard to join anything at all and when we do, we will demand relevancy such as other organizations have recently been unable to provide. We will not take solace from the creation of monuments or the naming of parks after a select few of the thousands of dead Americans and Vietnamese. We will not uphold traditions which decorously memorialize that which was base and grim.

It is from these things the New Soldier is asking America to turn. We are asking America to turn from false glory, hollow victory, fabricated foreign threats, fear which threatens us as a nation, shallow pride which feeds off fear, and mostly from the promises which have proven so deceiving these past ten years.

Remember the picture of the two vets who turned their back on Kerry the last time? What if 50 or 100 or all the vets turned their back? What an opportunity to turn what he obviously hopes to be an RNC attention-getter into a fiasco!

Let's hope these guys sparked a fire. They are certainly heroes to me:

War veterans Jere Hill, middle, from Warham, Mass., and Robert Gibson, right, from Lexington, Ky., stand with their backs turned during Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's speech at the 105th Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention in Cincinnati on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004. Man in foreground is unidentified. Kerry received a polite if not overwhelmingly positive reaction from the VFW. But there was a clear divide, with scores of veterans sittings with their arms folded while others clapped. (AP Photo/David Kohl)

Well, the 200 or so in the background sure didn't turn their backs. Guess I won't be joining the VFW any time soon. Tell me when they're extinct.

In the reports I heard, many of them sat with their arms crossed & refused to applaud.

John Forbes Kerry was not well received.

Can't minimize this part, Wing:

I give the folded-arms guys credit too... The clappers were overly generous IMHO.

Hey guys,
Let's not be confusing the American Legion with the Foreign Legion.
The American Legion is comprised of American Vets.
The French Foreign Legion got their butts handed to them by the Viet Minh at Dien Bien Phu.

I do not expect the vets to do anything hear with John Kerry...I was really disappointed in the VFW! I expect the same thing.

Is he still scheduled to address them tomorrow? I haven't heard anything else about it... All I hear is he is laying low in Nantucket or somewhere this week...

I sent the following email to a contact address for the American Legion in an attempt to get them to push Kerry for an apology. I would ask that other forum members (hopefully also AE members, which I am not) also send similar emails. Perhaps if the AE receives enough such emails, they might go with the idea. I can't believe that Kerry actually might apologize (ego is too big), so something like this from the AE could be another boot in the ass.

To: ia@legion.org

Subject: John Kerry Should Be Asked To Apologize

Sir,

I strongly believe that John Kerry should not simply be allowed to
address an organization like the American Legion without making
some acknowledgment of and apology for his past sins against
veterans. I believe that John Kerry should be forced to watch
one or more of the statements available at the following website
and then be given an opportunity to apologize - and not allowed
to speak further if he refuses.

http://www.stolenhonor.com//documentary/samples.asp

John Kerry betrayed all of us in 1971 and 1972. He owes all of
us an apology now. At the very least.

Sincerely,

Robert L. Chamberlain

I expect that Kerry's reception at the American Legion will be like it was at the VFW. Decidedly chilly.
