Time Magazine columnist Joe Klein (In The Arena) page 21, Sept. 6, 2004 issue:

Joe attempts to explain that the Swifties have cost the nation the loss of the real debate about losing jobs to outsourcing. The article is, at best, incoherent.

Klein wrote, [referring to the gripes about Kerry's testimony about atrocities in 1971] "....These are are heartfelt gripes, perhaps, but wrong on the merits. Kerry's protest was not only honorable but accurate. The war in Vietnam was an unnecessary disaster.....:"

I cannot believe that I actually really did just read this in the TIME issue that arrived today.

Yeah, I cancelled my Time and Newsweek subscriptions a long time ago and let them know that it was their consistently leftist bias that caused me to do so. (And I am quite liberal on many social issues - I'm actually only conservative on financial and Constitutional issues.)

US News & World Report is closer to the center along with The Weekly Standard and The Economist (though very dry)

You get much better news on National Review, FrontPageMag.com, OpinionJournal.com, townhall.com - not to mention the fabulous blogs that are out there that absolutely TEAR UP the leftist media and set an example for what investigative reporting is supposed to be all about!

We've got some pretty amazing blogger participants right here on this board! Smile

Navy, Navy, Navy

I agree -- the only place to get your news these days is the on line at the locations you suggested.

I still get the WoPo but read it with the expectation that the truth is three degrees of separation to the right.

In other words, Klein's saying U.S. soldiers in Vietnam were criminals and drunken Fedayeen Uncle Sams.

"Time" magazine is no longer a reputable source of information. Discard it.

Question: if I apply for a subscription to Time, get one issue, don't like what I read, then cancel my subscription without paying for it, do I have to return the issue?

I used to subscribe to TIME, but also cancelled my subscription because of their liberally-biased distortions. TIME is part of the "old" media that has been replaced, at least in my life, by the "new" media of cable TV (Fox and C-SPAN, at least), Talk Radio, and the Internet blogosphere.

That's like saying by torpedoing Kerry's campaign, the Swift vets cost the nation the opportunity to live under a leftist regime.

I didn't want to hear the outsourcing debate anyway. It's a boring subject.

This is going to piss a lot of you off, but I think there's some truth to the part I highlighted in red. (the sentence preceding that is BS, though)
Like the Korean war, I think it would otherwise have ended up with troops across a DMZ facing each other ... I think Nixon would have been very happy with a sort of "stalemate" like that.

Korea pissed my dad off ... I think he either wanted to WIN the thing, or STAY OUT.

I don't care for wars that don't have a conclusion.
That currently includes Korea and Bosnia.
Similar non-war events include Haiti and Cuba.

In my warped way of thinking, a lot of citizens are leading miserable lives, and the root cause has been undisturbed.

So true. The 4 you mentioned are required reading for anyone who wants the real story on what is going on politically and globally. And the bloggers are terrific in covering the Swift Boat Veterans' efforts and their (the bloggers') dogged investigation has been a tremendous boon to dissemination of the truth.

One of the supporting arguments for our defense of South Vietnam was to stop the falling dominos of communism. Now we realize that the dominos are within our very society. We now have a traitor, communist sypathizer, as the democratic candidate for president, and before the swifties, he had a real chance at winning. Leftist dominos have been falling from within for 40 years now, its time to stop them and turn the tide.

Go Swiftees!

I only read Newsweak and Time in dentist's offices. Much to my wife's dismay, I entertain myself while waiting by adding lots of notes (corrections and filling in deliberate omissions) in the margins. I always carry a pen. You never know.

Okay, I admit it: on a few rare occasions, a face or two have been "improved." LOL!

Never pass up an opportunity to educate someone in a waiting room.....

Yes, it does piss me off. But, you didn't. The nature of war has been changing since wars were invented. We stopped marching in phalanxes into battle because you cannot win that way. We failed in Korea even though we had massive military superiority, but managed a stalemate through diplomacy. We had massive superiority in Vietnam too but lost it without so much as a one drum parade, primarily due to internal dissent. The reason is clear. We haven't learned to deal with ALL the terrorists, especially the internal ones. The world has evolved into a very sophisticated place where nations don't go to war against nations anymore. Saddam tried it against Kuwait and look where it got him.

I don't have the answers but I believe we should maintain our laws and punish severely those who violate them, without interference by any external entity, especially the UN. If a terrorist movement attacks us, I believe we have an inalienable right and duty to hunt it down wherever it is, and annihilate it without remorse and without apology to the host nation. And, we should use every power available to us to ensure national security.
