Curious,

I forgot to address the movie of Moore's.... he's laughing all the way to the bank again....
I didn't see it.... I won't give him any of my money

I saw clips on tv and they weren't true... I saw a senator on tv explain what happened when moore interviewed him for the movie (it's in the movie).... and he said Moore cut off his answer.... his answer was that his nephew IS in the war! a lot of our senators kids are way past the military age unless they are lifers...

I also saw clips about how he made the one on Columbine.... they were 'setups'.... it wasn't 'real life' he was taping.... not a documentary...

he makes up the parts he wants and clips and cuts them into a few bits of real footage to say what he wants.... lie....

it is really an anti Bush movie.... he knew he'd make a mint from the anti war crowd and his hollywood liberals... and regular democrats.... just with them alone, he knew he'd make another fortune!

he lied to make money, not an honest way to make a fortune....

I like honest people

Since you watched F 9-11, I think you should read Unfit For Command. Then take a good look at the men that produced/wrote the material and decide who you would believe.
I'll believe the word of an honorable Vietnam vet over a piece of @*$! like Moore.

Well said Slednfool. I recommend anyone go at their search for truth with the attitude that they honestly want to know the trurh. No bias, no axe to grind, without any attempt to prove anything. Just let it be what what it is.

Look at the charactor of the witnesses and the sacrafices they are willing to make to be heard. What if anything is in it for them. Both sides. Keep searching deeper and deeper. I would even recommend asking for Devine guidance to find and recognize truth, and likewise to see through any bias in yourself you may not recognize.

Keep searching, always willing to let go of a lessor truth for a greater one. Do this with honesty and intergrity and you will find your way to truth.

Let's see. As in a court of law, let's weigh the credibility of the witnesses, shall we?

Let's balance their honor, honesty, and integrity on the "scales of justice", okie-dokie?

On one hand, you've got a group of 250+ veterans, led by a man who is donating the profits to charity, is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, graduated # 1 in his Law School class, clerked for US Supreme Court Justice Rehnquist, took over Kerry's swift boat in Vietnam, and voted twice for Ross Perot and then for Al Gore, NOT for Republicans.

On the other, you've got a man who dishonorably, dishonestly, and with a total lack of integrity "cut-and-pasted" snippets, completely out-of-context, to make the crapumentary F/911. A regular "Mr. Creosote", who should just "have a wafer thin mint" and be done with it, already.

You make the call.

Curious....

Think back to the world on Sept 10th, 2001. The economy is still doing well, people are going about their daily lives and the main issue of the day was.....well - I can't even remember - I think maybe Bush was the education President or something and he was still trying to overcome his narrow victory margin and assert some credibility trying to gain some political capital.

Think about what happened next. If it helps to bring it home, think about those of us who knew someone killed in the attacks (3 of the men killed at the Pentagon were at USNA when I was there - one was my classmate). Think about how horrified and even terrified we were. I went to lunch that day in Philadelphia and had a big stiff drink and spent the afternoon talking to friends in DC. I was in shock. We all were.

Think about what happened next. Did we hear doublespeak about bringing criminals to trial? Did we lob a few cruise missiles into the desert at some tents? Did we lodge a protest at the United Nations? I don't think we did any of these things. Instead, we realized wisely that we are at war with a very dangerous enemy bent on destroying us. Our President, rose to the occasion. He pulled us together and do you remember what happened next.

We routed the Taliban and did so in a manner that was so quick, that there was no reason to respond to the critics who asked if we would stop this war during the 2002 winter Olympics (you remember that baloney right? - No need - it was already over).

We captured terrorists left and right and put them where they belong...in cages where they could be held accountable for their terrible actions by military tribunals.

We quickly changed our security posture and completely revamped airline security making major improvements along the way (we really did - I fly 200K miles a year, so I know)

We put other nations on notice that if you are not with us in the war on terror, you are against us, and we proved we meant business when we demonstrated to Saddam Hussein and the world that we were done with his bluffing about chemical weapons and his reign of terror was over.

We stood by our allies – as they suffered their own attacks, in Bali and Spain and most recently in Russia and even in France, where the French are scrambling these days, as they realize the terrorists are not their buddies and will actually kidnap Frenchmen too.

We did this all because it needed to be done. We took the hard road – but it is the only road. In years previous, we tried other approaches and our reward was planes and buildings falling out of the sky. Our new direction isn’t always popular and maybe doesn’t play well with opinion polls where the misinformed and those in denial have a say, but that's okay. This is serious stuff and it needs to be done right. The cost of a misstep is unthinkable.

I don't want my 5 and 9 year old sons to have to go off and fight this war someday. I want to finish it now. It started a long time ago and having done my part in the early 1990s, I think we’ve had enough. I know I have. I want a President with conviction and honor, who will do the right thing and get the job done. I don’t want someone who would spend 4 months dabbling in the war on terror worrying about how he will look in the future the whole time. George Bush may be criticized for his intellect, but at least I know what to expect from him and that he places the well-being of our country at heart. John Kerry is a like a reed drifting in the wind, wanting people to like him and focused on his own glory.

Think about what the world would be like if our leader on September 11th had been John Kerry. How would he have reacted? Would he have beached the boat and went looking for a way to make himself look good? Would he have consulted endlessly with the United Nations and our allies trying to decide what to do next? Would he have tried to negotiate with thugs? Or would he have turned and run. He wants us to believe his service in Viet Nam proves how he would react - and perhaps it does. At the end of the day - I don’t know what he would have done – I don’t want to ever find out. It scares the daylights out of me to think about it. Our country needs George Bush in the White House and I hope you will vote for him in November.

Thank you all, for your sincere answers.

I have read quite a few articles on the net now, and have given much thought to the subject of lying candidates and politics in general. I don't feel I can trust either B or K for the moment, though I am still listening to accusations and waiting for explanations...

In the past I have always leaned toward the democratic views, and perhaps this is why I had an open mind to Fahrenheit, and now find it difficult to handle the accusations against Kerry in an objective way. I realize that it's important to keep an open mind to all arguments, and I am trying to do so.

In the end, however, I realize that I still disagree with Bush on the most important subjects - domestic and foreign - and will most likely not give him my vote. I'll refrain from stating my political views here, since I don't think the forum is intended for political debate. I do feel the need, however, to mention my fear of terrorism, for this fear I know I have in common with most of you. I fear that going to war with other countries, without the support of our friends in Europe at least, stirs up more hatred towards us, no matter how good our intentions are. And if people hate us, we'll never be safe: no number of bombs will ever prevent an unstable man, full of hate, to dress himself in dynamite and then go to the movies with me. And so, in spite of our "war on terrorism", I don't feel safe. I believe the solution to terrorism is more complicated, and I hope that whichever candidate we elect will fight terrorism in more ways than by military action alone.

Thank you all again for your views and suggestions! I hope I haven't made myself unwelcome here, and I hope I haven't offended anyone. I believe it's important we share our views with each other, and the internet seems to be a great way to do this. If you have suggestions of a good forum for politics in general, please post a link. Wouldn't mind bouncing ideas back and forth with you over a nice cup of coffee. Smile

Thank you again for your feedback, and thank you for reading my post.

Sincerely,
Curious

Going to war without the 87 billion our troops need to win the war is a bigger problem the getting a permission slip from France & Germany who have turned out to be financial benefactors of the Sadam Hussein regime.

I hope you don't view me as a troll.

After having seen Fahrenheit, I was convinced I'd vote for the other guy. Then, recently, I started looking at both sides' arguments, and now I'm more confused and scared than ever.

Both "sides" seem confident that the competing presidential candidate is a big liar, and it seems both sides can back their accusations with some sort of proof. In a time of terrorism and pending wars, it scares me to think that both of the potential leaders of our country are willing to deceive the people (if this really is the case), whether it be mysterious oil business, or mysterious acquiring of medals.
........

Curious - You need to understand one thing, for people who served in our military concepts like: Honor, Integrity, Truthfulness, Duty, Patriotism, and many more are not just mere words. These are ideas that are ingrained into all services and have been since the founding of the country. They are literally life and death issues on the field of battle.
Demonstrated failure of any of these ideals is grounds for a court marshal.
All members of the military swear an oath to the country. Standards of conduct are written into military codes and laws. I would not disagree that there have been a few bad apples in the military, but they are quickly discovered and rejected by their peers.
I do not believe that it is possible to put together a conspiracy of veterans as large as the Swiftboat Vets. I believe what they are saying. Their testamony rings true with the facts. I believe they are wronged veterans who are trying to set the record straight.

Lets contrast this with the other side.

At the core of the current Democratic party is a group of individuals who put naked political ambition ahead of everything else. They have no understanding of the principals upon which this nation is founded. Their desire is to bring about a European style socialism in America. They do not respect the checks and balances of our Constitution. For them, the ends justify the means. Anything that advances their ambitions is OK with them. This is what Zell Miller was talking about last night. They are not the Democrats of old. This is a group that came to power during and after Vietnam. Many of them have strong ties to Anti-American groups and foreign powers. They are not to be trusted if you care about this country and it's continuation as the America we know and love.
Sorry for this rant, but it is what I truly believe. I hope this helps you to sort out the truth from the lies.

Curious:

I can truly understand your dilema and you've definitely spoken from the heart. Regardless of your political views, you come across as sincere in your search for answers.

Here's how I've boiled it all down over the years: Domestic and foreign policies, the economy - will take care of themselves so long as the people maintain their voice and exercise their responsibility of holding the government accountable. We'll always see peaks and valleys.

So what does it leave me with in my choice? Simply stated it is, who would I trust with my children. If either candidate was applying to be my babysitter, who would I let through my front door and entrust? Zell Miller touched on that last night and nothing could be more true. It is the safety and welfare of our prodgeny, not some immediate pie in the sky gratification that should be foremost in our decision process.

In this years' contest there is one candidate that I do trust to that level and one candidate that I would have second thoughts about allowing one step on my front lawn.

I may not agree with all that candidate says, nor believe in all that he proposes but I DO trust him to be steadfast, true and honest in what he does.
