Why hasn't this got more of the media attention? The Kerry camp sure haven't made it a point to take it off their web site. Someone needs to bring more attention to this fabrication.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing wrong with it, other than it was awarded for picking up a guy who went overboard out of the water.

The issue about whether or not there was hostile fire (the qualification for the Combat V), is in contention, and the standard response has been "The official Navy documents support it". The problem is that it was apparently based on the SPOT report, which appears to have been written by Kerry.

Oh, and there was a second certificate with embellishments issued well after the fact. But that's another story....

(at the time this reply was written, the subject was "Bronze Star with V". I have serious problems with the Silver Star with V that has been discussed at length elsewhere. Just so no one thinks I'm defending a non-existent award, and somehow confused the 28 Feb 69 and 13 Mar 69 incidents...)

The Bronze Star with V wasn't the problem, it's the Silver Star with V.

Exactly. I think the problem is that this sort of thing strikes the chord with military and vets because we know that "compliance with instructions is mandatory".

Even though it is an impossibility the award of the V with that decoration, most people would see it as a goof and not perfidy.

I think it at least shows that they need to do some housekeeping on their fact sheets.

I guess it is the Silver Star with a V, considering the Silver Star is only awarded for combat galantry and the Bronze can be awarded for non-combat (not engaged with enemy).

My bad.

Still, same point.

Silver Star w/ Combat "V" is fraudulent.

Thats not too strong a word is it, fraud?

And isnt it a Federal offense to present fraudulent military records?

I am soooooo confused.

as it stands I believe the last reporters to have written on the topic said they were contacting Kerry campaign staff and have not been able to get a hold of them.

That is a couple of days ago.

Check out Bandit's excellent comparison of the 3 Silver Star citations here.

At the bottom of this page, note that the first citation signed by Zumwalt is on Kerry's site after all - there had been suspicions it was pulled down, but it's just under a different heading and .pdf than "Silver Star".
