|
|
I was thinking about this, and the obvious truth that 1 million or so in advertising by these 250 men have rocked the campaign as much as they have far more then the 60 Million + by left wing 527 groups, and it boils down to who the message is aimed at.
The Moveon.org, ACT.org and other left wing 527 groups are just preaching to the choir, Bush is terrible, re-electing him will end the world... its an extremely partisan message that well, hits a home run with those that agree with the message, and is written off by everyone else.
The SBVFT on the other hand, have effectively conveyed their message to a broad spectrum of the public. Their message while negative against Kerry, has resonated with the voters, left right and center. If Kerry had been more effective in dealing with the ads, had a more honest approach aside trying to shut them down with legal scare tactics, I think the SBVFT ads would not have had the power they have.
While the questions raised in the ads has proven to be effective, there is, as the military would say, a force multiplier, in Kerry's apparent dishonesty. It's obvious to many that the best course of action for Kerry would be to file a Libel suit against the SBVFT, and release all 100 remaining documents in his record. That he refuses to take this course of action only adds weight to the SBVFT claims. Kerry banked on the media being able to cover for him, instead his delay has cost him in the ever more prominent polls. President Bush is going into the RNC convention with a positive movement in the polls, and could come out with a "bounce" where as Kerry had a blip.
Kerry is going to have to face the SBVFT charges, openly and in a hostile environment to prove he has the moral courage to be president, otherwise his only hope is that Bush blows it in the debates, or there is significant negative news on the economy and Iraq in the last weeks of the election. Its never a good political strategy when you have to hope for bad news and your opponent dropping the ball. _________________ http://www.livejournal.com/users/mrvicchio/ |

The 527's from the left are dogma, pure and simple.
The SBVFT ad is an old debate from 1971 that never was concluded. The scars that McCain referrs to will not heal until the abcess has been lanced and some anticeptic is applied. And most importantly the parasite kerry must be removed from the wound.
Ask kerry for some PH neosporin. _________________ kerry returned to the United States on July 22, 1971, held a press conference publicly calling on President Nixon... for the surrender of the United States to North Vietnam.

It's amazing how $200K and the truth stomped all over $60 million and partisan smears.
On second thought, it's not amazing. The truth SHOULD win.

If I could dust myself down with flea and tick powder and get rid of Kerry in the process, I'd do it, he's a bit harder to get rid of though.
The ads have been very effective. They need to be kept up. Persistence, persistence, persistence. |

The Ads work because each and every single one is a Testimonial from an actual person talking.....its a simple message from a person you can view...
Compare that to smoke and mirrors and fluff of all the other political Ads.
The KEY is the Veterans speaking of what they know. Its simple really |

add to that the fact that these "real people" will appear on radio and tv shows, both hostile and friendly, and defend their claims. |

The Swift Boat ads are made up of real veterans who were there. People know that a lot of the campaign ads have actors playing their parts. The Swift Boat ads also tell of very real emotions that people can relate too. |

The ads work due to:
1) A simple message told honestly.
2) Repeatable without deviating from (1)
That's marketing 101.
The lefts 527's however have a differnet problem:
A) They can't sell it straight up no one would buy. So they have to dress it up and call it something different.
B) Fuss over nuance and drown out their message.
C) Their attacks on Bush typically lack teeth becuase they lack substance.
That's marketing 201, when selling S@#^, claim it promotes growth. Problem is there is a lack of cause-effect in such advertising. One has to be predisposed to that product selection to really be swayed by the ads.

The ads are a gut punch to Kerry and for the reason everyone has pointed out: they are true.
It is so effective to use the images and audio of Kerry himself and then listen to the men relate to Kerry's actions after Vietnam.
Here's my cut: had Kerry done nothing unseemly at all, in other words, if his actions in combat were perfectly sterling and all his decorations perfectly legitimate, he would still have to deal with what he did when he came back.
You can take out all the other stuff that happened before 1971 and you still have a very powerful negative message delivered by the very target of the ads himself... amazing.
People must take a breather and think, do we really want a Vietnam War protestor, and not just protestor but organizer and propagandist in the Oval Office?
I think that is enough to turn all but the most yellow-dog voter away from this person. |

The only thing they got is - Hate Bush. That market is tapped out. There is not one single vote left there. They are throwing away Soros' money now.
The Swiftvets on the other hand have a fresh story. Its not about hating Kerry, its about taking an honest look at the man.
An honest look. I am sick of hearing about the ficticious standard of 'the men who served ON his boat.' (Is Gardner a ghost or what?) Who do you go to for a recommendation? Your subordinates or your peers, superiors?
Do potential employers ONLY look at your resume' - the edited and sanitized record you put on the table or do they dig a bit deeper and see if there is something else they need to know about you? ESPECIALLY if its an important position they are looking to fill.
Last I looked the President of the United States of America was a pretty important position to be applying for. Why are so few interested in finding 'the rest of the story?' Are they not a weeeeeeeeeee bit interested in whats being hidden from them?
You know, the UNedited, UNsantitized, UNabridged version of Senators Kerry's Vietnam service.
I just dont get it.
UNFIT for COMMAND - sold out at bookstores everywhere.

Tha ads work because they are believable. And, they have sparked the interest of the electorate. The public is nosy. Curious. This is mysterious. It is different. No group outside of the beltway has ever taken a candidate to task in this manner. Not ever. I think that we have learned the power of the people. We can make a difference. We don't have to pay $2000 for a dinner to even get noticed. When people share a common belief in righting a wrong they can move mountains. It is the spirit of America.
Now, after this is over and we are victorious, I think we should decide on the next issue we will tackle since we already know each other so well and have this organization well on the road. We can become the shoveoff.org group. _________________ Nomorelies Make a donation HERE |
