Horowitz is one of the best. If you really want to be educated about the left, where it came from and what it represents, he has written some excellent books about his past as a radical leader. If this post were required reading in high schools, instead of the leftist propaganda that passes for literature, our kids would be better prepared to face the real world. Parents, print it, have your kids read it, and talk about it. That's parenting. _________________ It's downright brilliant the way he's reserving his devastating intellect to spring it on us at exactly the right moment. |

Thank you David Horowitz for this statement!
I can only hope that more letters and articles like this will be forthcoming from members of the liberal mainstream media, liberal left Senators of Congress, and leaders of anti-war protestors who collectively joined ranks and collaborated in 1971 to lie to our U.S. Congress, to our Armed Forces, and to the American People that resulted in exercising the "Power of the Purse Strings" which is directly responsible for the loss of millions of innocent lives!

The Left means well--or most of them do.
They've forgotten the maxim that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. |

“How can it be that persons so deeply committed to the liberation of South Vietnam and Cambodia from Generals Thieu and Lon Nol were so little affected by the enslavement that followed their liberation? Why was there so little anguish among the American accomplices who helped Pol Pot to power?” Indeed, why have such supposedly passionate advocates of Third World liberation not raised their voices in protest over the rape of Afghanistan or the Cuban-abetted catastrophe to Ethiopia? "
Excellent perspective. One can only hope more of the new left will wake up to what is happening with the war on terror. |

Just fyi, Horowitz' article was written in the mid-80's, but resonates as true as ever today. _________________ -- Bill in Seattle |

Amen to that! This essay should be part of the curriculum of every US history class in America. |

My experience has convinced me that historical ignorance and moral blindness are endemic to the American Left, necessary conditions of its existence. It does not value the bounty it actually has in this country, and in the effort to achieve a historically bankrupt fantasy—call it socialism, call it “liberation”—undermines the very privileges and rights it is the first to claim.
The lesson I learned from Vietnam was not a lesson in theory, but a lesson in practice. Observing this nation go through its worst historical hour from a vantage point on the other side of the barricade, I came to understand that democratic values are easily lost and historically only rarely achieved, that America is a precious gift, a unique presence in the world of nations. Because it is the strongest of the handful of democratic societies that mankind has managed to create, it is also a fortress that stands between the free nations of the world and the dark, totalitarian forces which threaten to engulf them.

The LM from Whoopie to Tom Cruise to Katie Couric to Dan Rather to the DNC and Dem to Kerry to Clinton, and I'm sorry John, but even Al Gore, and assorted Ivy League fools, and all sort of apparatchiks, may ridicule what Horowitz wrote, above. But it's no exaggeration. He states it very well. |

Very well stated, an interesting argument from an educated member of the left and the effects of what he was for caused.
To bad there aren't more people like this who realize how their actions effect the entire world. Amazing bit of insight on his part, I felt I needed to comment soully to keep the essay within my reach. |
