Kerry Attacks at the American Legion He Once Attacked
Here's trendy radical John Kerry in the 1970s: "We will not quickly join those who march on Veterans Day waving small flags, calling to memory those thousands who died for the 'greater glory of the United States.' ... We will not readily join the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars."
But now he wants votes, so readily or not, he went crawling to the American Legion's convention today in Nashville, this time to snipe at President Bush.
"When it comes to Iraq, it's not that I would have done one thing differently. I would have done almost everything differently," claimed the senator who once boasted that he voted to fund the troops until he voted not to fund them.
Because of Bush, "today's terrorists have secured havens in Iraq that were not there before. And we have been forced to reach accommodation with those who have repeatedly attacked our troops. Violence has spread in Iraq. Iran has expanded its influence, and extremism has gained momentum," said the Senate's No. 1 extremist.
"With the right policies, this is a war we can win, this is a war we must win, and this is a war we will win. ... In the end, the terrorists will lose, and we will win," said the senator who for decades has tried to decimate the U.S. military and intelligence services.
Update: Bush spokesman Steve Schmidt responded to Kerry's latest attacks by saying, "This is a candidate who voted for the war, voted against the troops and said he was an anti-war candidate, and then said he would make the same vote for the war again. The only way to keep track of his position on Iraq is to follow which position benefits him politically." |
