If you were watching the Fox pundits after the speeches last night, you heard the discussion of the president's speech tonight. Bill Kristol's fantasy was President Bush with HIS "band of brothers", 250+ Swift Boat Vets...

Now we know that is just a fantasy for at least two good reasons. First, the Swiftees aren't FOR Bush, they're against Kerry. And second, if even one Swiftee was seen anywhere near Bush, that would undermine any assertions that the Swiftees have nothing to do with the Bush campaign.

I thought the fantasy was amusing, though.

(BTW, another Kristol fantasy was that Cheney would step aside and McCain would be the VP nominee, so we are talking about fantasies here.)

I have my doubts about Bill Kristol. I have heard a lot of his commentary on various issues over the years and I can't help but feel that he is not a conservative. He is portrayed as conservative when brought in as a commentator, but he sounds more like a wishy-washy liberal Republican. I have a lot more respect for Fred Barnes.
My wife was watching Susan Estrich diss Zell Miller's speech and she absolutely LOST IT! She screamed at me to TURN THAT DAMN WOMAN OFF!!!! So I did.

Bill Krystol was John McCains #1 fan in the 2000 Republican primaries.
He was quite confident that McCain would overtake Bush, and very upset when that didn't happen, due to the "whispering campaign" that has been blamed (fairly or unfairly, I don't know enough to comment) on Bush.

and the eyes seem only to look at the guilty, he rides this

and as they look back , the "demon" seems ever closer,

and ahead of them is the "pit of nothing" their only choice

now is to be eaten by the "demon" or jump into the "pit of nothing"

Regarding Susan Estrich and her voice, I saw Rep. Charles Rangel on the Dennis Miller show a month or two ago, and Miller kidded him that he and Estrich sounded exactly the same.

That was a similarity that I'd noted to my Dad a couple of weeks earlier.

Estrich is relevant inasmuch as she is another in a group of surrogates who do Kerry's talking for him. It is another sign of the man's innate cowardice that he hides behind others whenever attacked. Estrich and the rest of the Kerry amen chorus will become irrelevant when and if Kerry ever holds an open, free-for-all press conference after signing a Form 180.
