The following is an excerpt from a front-page article in the Los Angeles Times, September 3, 2004. The article, titled "Kerry Reacts to Republicans With Crisp Attack of His Own," begins on p. A1 and is continued to p. A28:

On page A28, col. one, para. three, BEGIN EXCERPT:

Kerry's new emphasis comes after he made his service in Vietnam the centerpiece of the Democratic convention in July, a strategy that many party activists say left him vulnerable when a veterans group unleashed a series of searing television attacks on his wartime service.

The fallout has triggered a dip in the polls and a wave of dissension within the party about the Massachusetts senator's campaign.

"Bush has successfully, at least in part, been able to attack what should be an unassailable record of public service," said Democratic strategist David Doak.

"Kerry needs to get off that and get the campaign back on a referendum on Bush's performance."

During a breakfast meeting with reporters in New York on Thursday, Kerry's campaign team waved off talk of internal changes. They aknowledged that the allegations that Kerry exaggerated wartime injuries and skirmishes - countered by key witnesses and available military records - had thrown the candidate off stride.

"There's no question in the last month we've been talking about things we don't want to be talking about," said pollster Mark Mellman.

Don't miss the key point I highlighted here - I've seen it in articles in our local papers as well. The Kerry camp and the reporters are all claiming that your allegations have been investigated and found to be false! This is the party line the MSM is using right now. The work isn't done, not by a long shot!

MJB: Other newspapers around the Country may be publishing similar, but for the Los Angeles Times to publish that a " a veteran's group unleashed a series of searing television attacks," is for us, in So Cal, a major event ("once in a blue moon").

This same article goes on to state: "Aides said that although Kerry still would stress his military experience and his criticism of Bush's handling of Iraq, as he did Thursday night, he would spend the bulk of his time talking about pocketbook issues."

We agree - we should continue to relentlessly pound Kerry with the ammunition of truth and not become over-confident; although I doubt that will occur as Attorney O'Neill posseses a brilliant understanding of the operational art.

This is the part that is not the truth. Bush did not have anything to do with this effort. Very Happy
