I just came across this
http://www.truthlaidbear.com/archives/2004/09/04/campaign_finance_reform_60day_window_is_here.php#001421
and must admit that I had absolutely no idea that by law, 527 ads in theory have to stop now. So what's the SBVFT strategy from now until November?
UPDATE: skip to the posts below for good explanations of why I was reading it wrong _________________

Restrictions on "Phony Issue Ads" Run by Corporations and Unions (The Snowe-Jeffords Amendment).
Swiftvets does not have any contributions from a corporation or union, so they can run til the election. |

By law, the SBVT can run commercials until Election Day. Only unions and corporations are barred in the last 60 days from running political spots (a very scary brake on free speech but the law).
Now that the airwaves are theoretically less polluted with corporate and union spots, SBVT commercials should have more impact. The only question is what the next spots should be.
I think the next emphasis should be on John Kerry's treasonous conduct in Paris. Unremarked portions of Unfit for Command, in my opinion, contain the true reason Kerry should be barred from any public office--he betrayed the United States and was personally culpable in the genocide of 4 million people in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. I even submit the Kerry campaign has dwelled on the medals controversy to detract from potential crimes detailed in the other parts of Unfit for Command. Kerry has the blood of American soldiers, sailors, and airmen, and millions of communist victims, on his hands. Even after this campaign he should be held to account for his atrocious conduct and possible crimes. A trial, conviction and long prison sentence would be the ideal, but defeat and potential expulsion from the Senate is a more reasonable goal. But that is getting ahead. The first thing to do is to put together commercials that destroy this man for the horror he caused here and abroad.
Finally, and to your point, the late Senator Paul Wellstone tried to included "public interest groups" (read 527s) in the 60-day time frame but that was defeated because most Senators deemed it unconstitutional and unlikely to withstand judicial scrutiny. |

They MUST run until election day. Unfortunatley people can forget all too quickly and be swayed all too easily. |
