Have we seen this yet? It was news to me until I was reading some other blogs this evening -

Pentagon Inspector General Contacts Secretary Of The Navy About Kerry Awards - http://www.judicialwatch.org/3809.shtml

I don't know much about Judicial Watch, but is seems to me this is good news for the cause!

Judicial watch should call for an investigation the treason of Benedict Arnold Kerry and Hanoi Jane.

The Defense Department IG cited Section 8(d) of the Inspector General Act of 1978, which states: “. . . the IG of the Department of Defense shall expeditiously report suspected or alleged violations of chapter 47 of title 10, United States Code (Uniform Code of Military Justice), to the Secretary of the military department concerned or the Secretary of Defense.”

How sweet it is.

What was Kerry's response (Michael Meehan replied for the campagin) to this:

"The facts are clear, the Navy awared John Kerry the silver Star, A Bronze medal with comabt "V" and 3 purple hearts. It is a waste of taxpayers dollars and the Pentagon's time, especially during war time to investigate a 35 yeard old Navy Clerical Error".

So does this mean Kerry is admitting a clerical error? The Navy has said that it is up to the individual to report any errors and correct them. Wow! Guess Kerry did not know you were suppose to correct these errors and it was OK to display them as is.

Yep. It's a federal crime to knowingly claim (and posting is claiming) false medals. It is "false official record" IIRC. The departing servicemember is required by law to verify the correctness of his DD214 when he signs it.

Had Sen. Kerry immediately said that this was a mistake when the story first broke and then asked for the Navy to amend the record, he probably would have been OK (at least w/r/t the "V" for his Silver Star). However, silence implies culpability in this case....and claiming it is an error now is too late.

JWatch did ask for more of an investigation, seems the Navy has only made a response re the medals charges...

Dishonorable Commissioned Service:
According to publicly available records, Senator Kerry was released from Active Duty and transferred to the Naval Reserve (inactive) on 3 January 1970. On 1 July 1972 he was transferred to the Standby Reserve (inactive). While a commissioned officer in the inactive Naval Reserve, Senator Kerry traveled to Paris, France and met with official delegations from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) and the Provisional Revolutionary Government (the Viet Cong). The Vietnamese Communists eagerly met Senator Kerry and benefited directly from the obvious propaganda victory

kate, there is a good reason for this. If Kerry were in the IRR rather than the regular reserves, then the UCMJ might not apply to him and as such a DoD IG investigation might not be appropriate.

However, any person either in uniform or who has even worn the uniform takes falsifying medals damned seriously. This is something the Navy could investigate without appearing partisan...and will.

Smile Thanks for all of the comments about Senator Benedict Kerry and his anti-American actions while wearing the uniform.

I am not sure of what was applicable when JFKerry was in the IRR. I'm pretty sure now that he would still be under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and that would bear on his anti-war activities. Children, can you spell "treason"? If he was in any sort of Volunteer Training Unit (VTU), the CO or OIC should have counseled LTJG Kerry on the repercussions of his anti-war activities. At least Col. Arnold had enough sense to go over to the British Army after he betrayed the Americans. Maybe Kerry didn't do that because the NVNavy didn't offer him a promotion.

It's not his conduct during active duty that really gets me. Not everyone is competent to be a destroyer officer, and he may not have been. JFKerry may have been encouraged to leave GRIDLEY as he was the Swift Boat unit. I honestly wasn't the hottest Snipe for most of my career, as most of my evals show. LTJG Kerry was obviously a glory hound. Who else would bring a typewriter and a movie camera in country? It's just what he did AFTER returning home that grates on me the most. The rest of his active duty just shows that maybe he doesn't have the best leadership skills for Commander in Chief positions (ie President).

Just stay in the US Senate, Mr. Kerry. It's the perfect place for a Public Affairs Officer who couldn't drive a DD.

Yes Michael, and now the Navy is investigating to see if they made a mistake.
