The Kerry campaign did not call McCain a liar, and thus he will not respond to his good friend John. If he forgave him for prolonging his imprisonment, for adding to his torture, and for calling him a war criminal, what will a little political rhetoric do?

Problem with that slight of hand argument by Kerry's Staffers... is that on Face the Nation and other shows it was held up in hand....a piece of paper saying....." Here are 140 lies.....in 4 days....that's a lot of lies"
On the talk shows the document is sold as "140 Lies" and NO disclaimers |

I agree 100%, same with Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace. Tad Davine called them 143 lies. |

OK. But you have to remember - McCain really supports Kerry here. He is much more comfortable with Kerry. Kerry is his friend. He may not loath Bush (maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it), but he doesn't like him.
When you say about the opponent, in a race where the main position of your party is that the country needs a strong CinC, that the opponent would also make a good CinC, you are not there for the party.
McCain was promised something for his speech. He was clearly not enthused about it. When I saw it, I realized all of the rumors about him replacing Cheney in a last-minute surprise were just rumors. What he has been promised was a lot less than the Veep slot - which would have put him in a great spot for 2008. THEN he would have been enthused!
With the talk that Rumsfeld, Rice, Ashcroft and Powell are out, look for McCain to be given a senior cabinet position. It helps several ways - it avoids the Senate curse since Kennedy on presidential elections, it keeps him prominently in the public eye (much more than being even a high-profile Senator), it keeps the Republican machine behind a nominally-Republican candidate.
As far as the talk shows - they are expected to be partisan hype. McCain knows that. He's been in this biz a long time (Newt is a great one to listen to on discounting political hype - whenever a talking head tries to get him to respond to some outrageous campaign trail statement, he just laughs it off as the hype it is).
Politicians hang on to certain realities and appearances. So long as John Kerry is not accusing McCain outright of lying, McCain will look at the site and know that, when he is confronted with "John Kerry called you a liar! How do you respond?", he'll say, "Well, when you look at their web site it really says... We have a disagreement on some things. I don't think John is a liar, and he doesn't think I'm a liar." "Senator Kerry, you called John McCain a liar!" "No, Larry, we pointed out on our web site many of the distortions and half truths of the RNC. I would never accuse my good friend Senator McCain of lying. I think he's wrong on some things, and I think he was used by the evil vast Right Wing Conspiracy to promote an agenda he reaaly knows is not true."
That's how I suspect it will play out. |

Good grief, they are trying to be Zell Miller! He had his list of votes
with him and told them he had the goods on Kerry.
Now they are out there trying to look like him.
This is too, too funny.
The conservatives are best to just ignore this latest bit of insanity.
As for McCain, I never know what he will say, he reacts differently than
I expect nearly every time, but I do want to see what he says!
This episode can be laughed at, and that is what should be done, it
is a clinton trick he uses on a opponent and Kerry is out there doing
it to himself. _________________ Swiftvets rock! |

That press release is just plain weird. It's just a list of quotes. It calls them lies.
But nothing more than that. They don't even bother TRYING to make a case as to why it is a lie. It just says it's a lie. No facts, no figures, no contrary evidence of any kind.
Just a list of quotes with a heading "Four Days of Lies...". Take away the heading and it's a list of highlights!
You would think they would at least make an effort... That' s the sorriest refutation I have ever seen.
Just bizarre. _________________ Talking point #1: Sign 180

Beatrice, welcome to the world of the Kerryites. It is now their mantra to decry any attack on their Policies as attacks on their Patriotism, any questioning of their past actions as slanderous Lies and an attack on their Patriotism, any questioning of why they took a certain political position as Lies and attacks on their Patriotism, you have the idea how it works. |
rb: The world of the Kerryites. Sounds like an Azimov tale to me... or maybe something Lewis Carroll wished he had thought up -- such a twisted place...where something is, but it really wasn't while it was, and could be yet but never was in the first place..... Hopefully their mantra will turn on them and swallow them whole. I know we're all doing everything we can to help make that happen..... |

I dont see Rumsfeld lasting past this election, he screwed up too many times this year. Condi and powell will probably not be going anywhere. but then again i never expected George Tenet to step down. _________________ John Kerry, R.I.P. (Rot In Paris) |

EXACTLY - well put and thank you. I looked at it quickly and was bothered by "what it was" as a list of lies -- but you explained it perfectly. Absolutely creepy.... YIKES !!
I suppose these will be their talking points and they will just state a quoted statement and say "this is a lie" or a "half truth" or whatever, from our list, and then the interviewer will not ask anything further, and they'll go on to a new topic and the lies will be "established." I suppose there is a brilliant lunacy to it... |

This list is pure comedy. It's Sat. Night Live stuff. It will make John Kerry a laughing-stock. It's like (para-phrased)
Bush: "Kerry voted against funds for our troupes!"
Kerry: That's a half-truith! I voted for them before I voted against them!" |

I believe Rumsfield will Stay, (only sKerry changes horses in mid stream). I have heard rumors that Powell and Condi would leave for the second term, I don't believe that. The closest thing I could believe is that Tom Ridge will step down as Homeland Security Advisor to make way for Guiliani or better yet one of the NEW Intelligent Czars for him, just for National Exposure before he goes after the Junior Senator from New Yorks seat. |

Wait a minute! You can't call that a half truth! It might have been a half lie - before it was a half truth! |

This list is really weird. I looked through the whole thing very quickly and am amazed at this strange document. Now I am truly convinced they have lost it in the Kerry camp. This is an exercise in futility on their part when it comes to the undecided because all they have done is said that every speaker at the RNC is liar. That may appeal to the far left who attempts to vilify anyone on the right or even in the middle but anyone truly undecided is likely to reject such a crazy sweeping assertion. _________________ fighting steel |
