I believe you nickb, since you're speaking for yourself. Fact is, though, that the normal participation level is 10 to 20% and that includes places where people PAY to belong! Most people will nod their heads rather than hit the reply button to say they agree. If someone else has said what they're thinking already, they move on to the next message. There are many posts here from folks who lurked for weeks before posting. During those weeks they were proud members of the silent majority Smile

Isn't the choice of words this NYT writer uses "attacks on Kerry" referring to SVTS/Truth interesting. The more accurate word would be "challenges," And isn't it interesting that few of the media darlings will challenge Kerry's history of his Frank Burns behavior?

SwiftBoatVets do indeed rock!

"Credible" and "NY Times" just don't fit in the same sentence.....

The negative numbers the Times is tossing around is just another tactic to influence readership that the SBVT is a waning movement. If people want more truthful information than what's printed in that rag, they can get it out of the old Sears catalog in the outhouse.

Face it gentlemen, the NYT would do anything to shut you up. I suspect in the end that 250 "old" sailors will not only reveal the truth about Kerry but the NYT and other liberal media too.

Stay on message, stay focused on your mission --- you are doing a great job!!!!

Nick, what do you mean by your last post? What should the NYT put on their masthead? Confused

Pravda nya Izhvestia; Izhvestia nya Pravda! (Old Soviet joke.)

In Truth there is no News; in News there is no Truth!

¡Claro que sí!

The real reason it's funny in Russian is that Pravda literally means "Truth" and Izhvestia literally means "News"!

So Pravda contained no news, and Izhvestia contained no truth!

Laughing

And I told that joke to an Azeri (ex-Soviet) colleague's wife (who majored in journalism in Soviet Russia) and she cracked up! She'd never heard it before! Laughing

Statistics are funny......

You can say hits at the site have doubled. What were they before?
If you had only ten, then twenty would be double. I've never been
polled by the NYTimes, Zogby, Phew, ect. I bet the percentage of
those actually polled is jip, or nill. The true poll is when we vote.

Statistics gathered by the site itself do not support the Times' assertion that "As its charges became more widespread, the number of visitors dwindled." Contribution data does not support the assertion either.

There are two definite patterns in the number of daily visitors. The first is that the number of visitors is lower on weekends than on weekdays. This is a very common pattern seen on many web sites. Moveon.org, for example, exhibits the same pattern.

A second pattern that we have is that release of a new advertisement generates very high traffic, which subsides over time as the video is seen by more people. So we see a "sawtooth" pattern where the upticks coincide with release of a new advertisement.

As for where we fit in the web site universe, swiftvets.com is ranked slightly higher than moveon.org, but not as high as johnkerry.com. We do, however, equal the traffic on johnkerry.com during our "new advertisement" spikes, which typically last 2-3 days.

The assertion that interest is dying down strikes me as pretty funny, just based on my personal experience. My blog's typical traffic before my first SwiftVets post on August 5th generally ran between 350-550 page views per day, with very rare spikes, maybe up to 2000 or so for a day, when something I wrote happened to get linked by InstaPundit or NRO's The Corner once every month or six weeks.

Here's a 30-day backwards-looking snapshot of my blog's traffic, as of September 22, from Sitemeter.com. Note well the pre-August 5th (pre-SwiftVets) numbers:

The purple portion of the graph, labeled "page views," are "hits." Sitemeter.com defines a "visit as a series of page views by one person with no more than 30 minutes in between page views," so the green portion is always lower; but when it's close to the purple portion, that means people aren't just clicking in and leaving, they're looking around.

And here's my traffic over the month previous to today, also as plotted by Sitemeter.com. Note that it looks like it's dropping off for Sep. 6 because this snapshot was taken at about 2:45am. And beware the different scale (0 to 20,000 instead of 0 to 10,000):

In the greater scheme of things on a national basis, these are of course still tiny numbers. InstaPundit's daily page views, for example, are running over 200,000. My small blog is one of many dozens like it that have been following the SwiftVets vs. Kerry debate and the upcoming election more generally. But in the last month, I've had over a quarter million page views, with probably 98 percent of those to pages where I've written about the issues raised by the SwiftVets. I still get spikes -- now up almost to 20,000 page views -- on days when I get linked by some of the big boys. But I'm drawing several thousand viewers a day who aren't referred by links from elsewhere, but who instead are returning from their browser bookmarks or from memory to look for more news on this controversy.

By the way, some decent portion of the hits to the Kerry campaign website are from people checking out for themselves what's in -- or more often, NOT in -- his records that are posted there. I link to it promiscuously, since it's a major source of proof of Kerry evasions, distortions, and oddities, and I'm personally responsible for probably 500 "hits" there in the last month. Just as it might be in Kerry's interest to take a vacation from now until Nov. 2 -- his polling numbers inevitably go up when he's out of sight -- it might be to his campaign's benefit to "accidentally" pull the plug on their website. Wink
