B/1/1 1st Mar Div USMC 1967

CAP Quebec 6 2nd CAG III Marine Amph Force 1967-1968

CAP was a pacification and village security program. A squad (undermanned) of Marines lived in a village. We trained and operated with the Vietnamese Popular Forces (local militia). The object being to provide security from VC. This was very dangerous duty as we were in effect alone in indian country, but I thought then and still believe this was very worth while.

I remember listening to Kerry's testimony in 1971 and I have been furious with him every since. As CAP Marines our mission was to protect Vietnamese from the ravages of the murdering VC.

Since the SBVT ads on Kerry’s testimony started. my son who is a college student (lifer I think) asked me “Were there a lot of atrocities and war crimes in Vietnam?”.

I have told him very little about Vietnam over the years other than I was there. I was surprised by this question so I asked “Why are you asking?”. He said it was a big topic on campus and many people believe war crimes and atrocities by US troops were common in Vietnam.

I told him the only war crimes I saw were committed by Viet Cong killing Vietnamese men, women and children who only wanted to be left alone. The young American men in the field fighting that war were no different than any generation of young American men fighting in any other war. How can anyone believe one generation is less honorable, less valorous, less caring and more vicious than any other?

The point of this to all of you is; the idea that Vietnam vets are all baby killers is still believed by many people in this country.

Kerry started it all and it is still with us.

The MSM talking heads and political hacks are starting to insert (subtlety) into the debate this myth once again. The talking points are; war crimes were committed, Kerry wasn’t wrong and he showed his courage by exposing war crimes.

We will be smeared all over again.

note: Please refrain from all caps in topic text...thanks

No, you won't be smeared again.

You have too many brother and sister vets and their families and friends standing with you, this time.

NEVER AGAIN will it be acceptable to foul the good name of the American Armed Forces.

You're not alone, this time.

NO they won't, but as what'sisface said, your friends, your family, your children, your children's friends. We saw what happened to you. We won't let it happen.

I will probably never get the chance to serve in the military, but that doesn't temper my appreciation for thsoe who do/did. I owe you my allegiance as I owe you my freedom.

YOUR FRIENDS WILL NOT REST.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, there were opponents of the war from both the right and the left. The right thought we should risk broader war a la Korea when the Chinese intervened, or even world war, to prosecute the Vietnam War more aggressively and effectively. And the left thought -- well, all the crap that Kerry said.

There's no longer that divide in America. The cold war is over. At a minimum, fully half the country -- and I suspect more like 85 or 90 percent -- realize what shabby treatment our country gave its veterans from Vietnam.

So yes, there's still some percentage of moonbats who are going to buy into the baby-killer stuff again. And yes, a downside of the issues the SwiftVets have raised is that it's knocking some scabs off some old wounds that haven't ever quite healed.

But it's going to be a small minority, and it's going to be met with the righteous indignation and outrage it deserves. I think that is true with respect to a substantial percentage of the folks who intend, however misguidedly, to vote for Kerry, but who either never bought into the atrocities hype, or who have gotten too wise to believe it anymore, or who are too young to have been aware of it but won't buy into it now.

CAP Marine: I've seen this beginning - and yes, they are being "subtle" but I don't think this will last. There is a possibility here of another wintersoldier-type investigation -- with kerry-vets & campaign spokespeople pressing stories about atrocities -- I've heard some already... the beginning of the buildup of portraying Kerry's "courage" in going before Congress and "telling the truth." Back then, O'Neill requested to testify before the Senate Committee to give the other side, but they denied him that chance.... they "didn't have the time," but in reality, their package was wrapped tight just the way they wanted it, and that is what was given to the public and the world. For the dems, stop the war, attack the whitehouse (as usual) -- for Kerry, the beginning of his political career. For both, selfish personal gain at all costs.

They are playing the same game, but this is not the same world. The vets who tried to speak out against Kerry back then but were not allowed to be heard or were not able to speak about the war because it was still too close to them, or didn't realize the ramifications of their not speaking out --all have their chance now. All of us will work as hard as we can to NOT allow this to happen again, but we are in need of the vets themselves to come forward with their stories of honorable service, such as yours here --to somehow get their stories heard, to identify the people who are able to get the message out - such as Ollie North, Bob Dornan and others, and to offer your personal stories to them. I'm tallking offense here, not defense. (Maybe Ollie could do a WarStories on Viet Nam highlighting the honor and courage of our fighting forces.... ?)

Just thoughts from a civilian supporter. I can email shows and shame them for having some of these people on that are talking about war crimes and praising Kerry's courage (like Bob Kerrey Twisted Evil ) without having someone from the other side represented, but I do not have any story of my own to offer so I can't throw any punches that really count. I spread the message, but you own it.

Aside from feeling uncomfortable and angry when Kerry "owns the message" on certain media outlets -- and especially now with the ramping up of the "old message" that Kerry is a hero for "exposing war crimes," I have absolute faith that truth will prevail, that we will NOT allow a continuation, a repeat of the smearing of Viet Nam vets -- and the gathering storm spearheaded by the SBVFT will effectively strip Kerry of all the layers of lies he has wrapped around himself, and will expose that man in all his dark colors and take him down -- hopefully with a hard, hard landing!!

The interesting thing is that due to the chaos within the CHICOM military caused by the "Great Cultural Revolution" their military couldn't have fought their way out of a paper bag. Their incessant calling us "paper tigers" in propaganda was simply a projection. As are most things leftists say. In any case, it was almost entirely a Soviet backed war, not a CHICOM one.
