If Kerry's campaign totally implodes, it could backfire on those of us who are exposing the truth about him.

Since Bill Clinton, James Carville and other high-level DNC operatives are now jumping into the fray, it's possible Kerry could step down from the Democratic Ticket and Hillary jumps in at the last minute to take over the ticket.

By stepping into the ticket after the resignation of Kerry from the race, Hillary would avoid all of the tough campaigning, the primaries and the Democratic Convention. Under normal circumstances Hillary would never win a Democratic nomination, especially with old-style Democrats like Zell Miller in the party.

Although most people with intelligence won't vote for Hillary based on her views, her presence on the ticket could manipulate women voters(Soccer moms, Oprah viewers) and the weak-minded into putting her in to the White House which would put America in even more danger from Osama since he would see Hillary in the White House as a bigger sign of weakness than a "President Kerry".

If Hillary somehow ends up on the Democratic ticket, we have to vote for Bush in droves to prevent the Clintons from re-taking the White House. The existence of America depends on it.

LOL....I presume you are joking...Kerry is the Candidate in the election. I just wrote a long post on why stuff like this dilutes the message of Swift Vets.

The Truth is about 2.5 Million Veterans of noble service....its not about Kerry.

My thoughts too.
If the Dems try to pull a "New Jersey" anyone they put in, including Saint Hillary (patron saint of the embodiment of all you dream of) will only lead to the total meltdown of the party in the election. They will be totally repudiated by the public.
I know I won't lose any sleep over it.

You know, this thought has nagged at me for a long time. they could indeed pull a Frank Laughtenberg. the fact is these people are absolutely desperate for power. I wouldnt put it past them at all. and they probably would put that socialist pig of a woman in there. if thats the case and she were to win Kiss the Constitution that I and many others defended good bye.
I live in colorado and to tell you the truth I really havnt seen that much on either side being advertised. I will say this It would put the republicans in a difficult position, our only hope would be the Supreme Court.
Thank Good for Juustices like Thomas and Scolia. thank God for Reagan.

and as far as diluting the message Integritycounts, I understand what you are saying. however look at the sheer panick on their side. they see all their Socialist programs being redefined by a republican, the Unions are in a tizzy, and they wont even have a decent shot at recapturing the Senate in another 6 years. So I would say Full steam ahead but check your 6.. all I have to say.

I really doubt that this is going to happen. For one thing, Kerry is too arrogant to do anything like stepping down. Also, if Kerry would to step down, then the mission of the swiftvets would be more or less accomplished. Surely, any alternative candidate(s) may be questionable for CIC as well, but the whole point of this movement is about Kerry, not the Clintons.

Never happen--If Kerry were to bail out, it would be seen by many as an indication that the Democrat Party, not just the Kerry campaign, is in total disarray and is itself collapsing--In truth, if Kerry loses in November, that could very well be the beginning of the end of the party as it now exists which wouldn't break my heart any--But if Kerry were to stand down, it would be very unlikely that any other candidate that they would put forward in his place could win because such an action would only make W look that much stronger and time is short--Much as I detest Hillary, I'm pretty sure that she's way too politically savvy to put herself in a situation like that knowing that if she were to lose, she'd never get another shot--

Nope, the Dems will go with their starting line-up and hope that they can somehow pull it out--C

I was worried about this much earlier, but a couple of things have changed or are changing:

One some ballots are or will be shortly finalized and even absentee voting is starting.

I am not even sure they could completely control their electors in such a case -- the normal case the electors are pledge to THE candidate but with the candidate changes the moral (and sometimes legal) commitment is relaxed or abrogated.

Finally, what are the DNC rules? This must be in the by-laws, e.g., it Edwards the automatic nominee? DNC picks? Who specifically at the DNC?

Some of "us" do, but many/most of "us" want the other guy to win.

In the various states that hold primary elections, the people chose who they want to be on the final ballot. Can a party spontaneously change the candidate? I suspect that this would be illegal. That is, if a candidate was not approved by the voters in the primaries, said candidate is not legit and, therefore, cannot be placed on the ballot. Or am I ignorant?

I think it would have to happen more than 60 days out and the national politics are more complicated tha those of New Jersey.

I believe it to be at best partially correct. In most if not all states they ELECTORS are slated by the parties which qualify a candidate and although the ballots may say "John Kerry" the ELECTORS are really receiving the votes in that state.

In some states there is a legal requirement for electors to vote for the "named" candidate (on the first Electoral College ballot), but most people believe this is unenforceable in practice.

Caveat: I am right on the edge of what I (think that I) know about the electoral (college) process.

States do however vary to some degree. Especially on dates for absentee ballots, closing of ballot lists, printing, etc.
