Kerry has repeatedly told the story of how he said "take me" to serve in Vietnam. However, the fact that he applied for a deferment prior to joining the Naval Reserve debunks this claim.
He has also called VP Cheney unfit for command because of his request for deferment. Is the pot calling the kettle black?
It's my opinion that Kerry's request for deferment, plus his anti-war stance and speech while he was at Yale should be used in an ad to show the truth of his actions at that time!

Building on the theme of how he got to Vietnam,
stress the fact that this was a man with a documented anti-war attitude (reference his speech at Yale, and his whiney comments on the Gridley) leading young enlisted men into battle.
If he was a legitimate consciensious objector (e.g. a Quaker, a pacifistic) , he should have not entered the military at all.
Doing so was a disservice to the men he was entrusted to lead (and their families back home). When you sign up to enter the military, you agree to fight. As an officer, you are entrusted with others' lives.
With his documented anti-war views, I dont see why the Navy made him an officer at all. I guess he was a good poseur. He was "for it, before he was against it".
Especially now that that he wants to be an "officer" once again leading young men in battle, how the hell are we supposed to believe he wont try to bail out again. And a box o' band-aids wont get you out of the war on terror!
Somehow this could be used for an ad (maybe with a photo from his Yale years). |
