Folks,
Someone needs to track down precisely what typewriters were available to use in that particular National Guard command organization. There must be some requisitions, etc., left over from that time period --??

Also ... Lt.Col.Killian, rest his soul, didn't type. If I remember correctly, the correct procedure for typing up a dictated or handwritten letter was for the secretary to list her initials at the bottom of the page in Lower Case, with the "boss" initials in upper case. like this:

XX:yy
AB/cd
etc.

This was procedure for private companies in the early seventies, I wonder if it also was military procedure for memo's.

Also ... to turn out a document that looks THAT good, you'd REALLY have to know how to use a selectric typewriter. And, if you were not accustomed to typing you wouldn't have a clue about using the superscript, even if it were available.

Selectric typewriters were NOT word processors ... unless you're a democrat, of course

I was just wondering about Quartermaster's records myself. How they were done, current inventories, how items were collected for removal, redirection, etc.

(Aside), I took my first typing class in 1970, at a small but well funded school. The typewriters we used were electric, but were hammer strike. Meaning they looked like old manual typewriters, but were solenoid driven to throw the strike arms at the platen.

I cannot fathom the ANG having the latest and greatest IBM's. Typewriters stayed in service until they fell apart. Then new ones were added in groups.
So, if the clerical area had ten for example, over half of them would have to been pronounced dead, before new ones came in.
Or an overwhelming technology upgrade.
