Went to read Washington Post article about today's march in DC. listed
under Politics.
The AP is reporting "hundreds" are there protesting Kerry.
Down below the article is an advertizement square with a listing from
Amazon

I terminated my account with Amazon today. I thought about it when they
opened up the review section on Unfit For Command but thought maybe they were just overwhelmed by it all, until I saw the ad. Unbelievable.
I am an Independent. Raised a Catholic, do not like to commit, never
have registered for any party, was once a neer do well hippy. What
I learned from the sixties was this.......
It was the Democrats that got us into Vietnam, Kennedy, then LBJ
That the press will never tell us the truth
The men who served in Vietnam were honorable, decent men of my generation who suffered because of Kerry's actions after his "tour" and
after reading the Swiftvets accounts, also during his "tour"
When the Swiftvets reach someone like me, they have reached an
Independent, the ones Kerry covets the most
John Kerry used the Vietnam Veterans Against the War for political gain
The VVAW used John Kerry because he was well spoken, well connected
veteran with "medals" and a Yale background
The VVAW was supported by Jane Fonda and others who told the enlisted men to shoot their CO in the back while in Vietnam and other vicious
acts
Jane Fonda has generously supported John Kerry's campaign for President
That lefty liberals are dinosaurs, they just don't know it yet, the true radicals, the new radicals are the Swiftvets and those who support them |

Time to start a campaign againt Amazon too!
This is just absurd with all teh slander going on against vets. I wonder how the MSM will slander VietNam vets after today's rally at the capitol?
How can they justify slandering all the vets that do not support Kerry?
How can they ignore this force?

First of all, I couldn't find this story under Politics or anywhere on the Washington Post site. Perhaps you could provide a link.
Secondly, Amazon doesn't run ads like this (I live in Seattle and am familiar with their technology, people and practices). The ad was likely posted by one of the thousands of third-parties taking advantage of Amazon's referral program, where they get a small cut of any sales resulting from people clicking the link. It's common to use all kinds of inflammatory language to get attention, and I'm not surprised one of them's trying it with the nations' #1 bestseller.
I'd hold off flaming Amazon for the moment. _________________ -- Bill in Seattle |

I did a search with "cancel account" and it sent
me to this blurb:
Quote: |
Still want us to close your Amazon.com account? First, visit Your Account and cancel any outstanding orders associated with the account. Once you have done so, please e-mail us </exec/obidos/handle-generic-form/?action=next-page&target=stores/help/self-service-email-form-dispatch.html&display=basic&browse=3569471&method=GET&cgi-post-result=1/104-5491867-2778315> to request that your account be closed. Please make sure to send your request from the e-mail address associated with the account you would like to close, so that we can verify your identity.

Sorry Bill,
I tried to copy it, it was in the Google Ad box on the bottom of the page
along with an AP story about the Veteran's Rally this morning.
When I clicked on the link it took me directly to Amazon. I tried
to do the link but was unable to, also tried to directly copy it but it
would load the Amazon site instead. Again, when I clicked on the link
it took me directly to Amazon. You are probably right about it being
an affliate of Amazon, but why would Amazon allow someone to do
an ad like that? The link was www.amazon.com
If Amazon wants to defend themselves that's fine with me, it was just the last straw for me, and I grew up in Austin. The story about the rally is no
longer there, it was just a blurb from AP. |

Maybe because Unfit For Command is #1 on their list of sellers and that has the Scary Kerry Campaign scared stiff? (stiffer than Kerry is on one of his speeches, I watched the DNC and wondered if they checked him for a heartbeat)
This member of the peanut gallery thinks so! |

Found the ad. It is not an Amazon ad. It is an ad purchased by a third-party using Amazon's "associates" program. The link is not a direct link to Amazon, but a redirect (indirect) via googlesyndication.com which a) records the click-through and b) lets Amazon know who gets the small commission.
Common practice on the web. Amazon does not purchase, place, edit or review these ads. If you spend any time on the web you'll see all kinds of crazy ads in these link boxes.
To see more like it, go to Google.com and type in "unfit for command". You'll see a whole bunch of third-parties on the right-hand column trying to sell you the book, several of them via Amazon.
Cancelling an Amazon account is barking up the wrong tree. And actually, Amazon has been very, very good for Unfit for Command and Regnery, thanks to their pre-order capability and generally good customer service. _________________ -- Bill in Seattle |

You're right Bill. But Amazon pretty much has to be good to the book,
it's making them a pile of money. And perhaps more liberals will buy it
to find out what the "right wing slander" is about and put some more cash into the Swiftvets pocket. |

I think the people selling spots on Google should hear about this (Google's advertising department). I know there is a push to create money for their investors since they have put themselves on the stock market. Amazon should also be informed about what is going on. |

Bill,
Actually the way Google AdWords work is that the merchant makes the ad (or several) to come up when specified keywords appear on a page where the owner of that page has inserted the Google AdWord code. It is the owner of the page that gets the small commission, the advertiser (in this case it would appear to have to be Amazon) is charged for the add on a per click through basis. I can't see, in this instance, where a 3rd party could possibly benifit from placing this ad. This appears to be the handywork of one of Amazon's copywriters. |
