Take a look at the Silver Star citations from Kerry's site ...

Notice that the "oldest" citation (from Hyland) has some interesting things:

1) A bunch of centered lines
2) again a very close match seems possible in Word (initial tests)
3) all italics ... I get the quote being that way but why the entire citation ...

Now look at the "newest" citation ...

This looks like your typical Naval correspondence ... typed, not centered very well ... and years later ...

I'm pretty sure the first one is a "duplicate" of the original citation, but why would someone "pretty" it up like this ?

If this is a case of a suitable for framing copy I would think that it would be on some sort of special certificate paper with special printing and embossing, maybe evean a seal of some sort ... and not on simple letterhead as it appears to be ... just a thought ...

I am sure someone else here can respond better as to whether the Navy had certificates sent out to have them typeset or even whether they had their own typesetter.

You could forged a document like this today. But, it was well within the Navy's means to make presentation documents like that in the sixties. Just not on a typewriter.

You need to ask someone that received a Silver Star or higher award in 1968-72, I think, for a comparison. It should have been a standardized procedure and format that was followed for the certificate.

When magnified, it looks like the test was typed OVER the stamp: "SERVICE RECORDS". You can see by how the pixellation breaks and the shading.

It seems that the stamp would be on top of the type!

yep, there were 3... someone here even put them side by side for comparison.... I read that the Navy told him to take them off the site because of the 'V'.... while under investigation.

Adding to the curiosity is the fact that Kerry has never posted a Silver Star recommendation, as he has done with the Bronze Star. Just adds to the mounting number of questions!

I've always wondered about the lack of a recommendation. I wonder if he chased the guy behind the hootch or was just afraid of the boat getting hit by another rocket, jumped off to run behind the hootch to hide and saw guy there. Smile

FF1047, the oldest Silver Star Citation from the Kerry website is not the one signed by ADM Hyland, it is the original Signed by ADM Zumwalt. All three were posted together on the Kerry website about a month ago, the day after I printed them out and wrote a scathing post here, the Kerry folks moved the original to a different place on their site "military service awards" coincidence I'm sure.

My approach is to understand the motivation for Kerry to desire 3 different citations when he already had the medal awarded. – Typesetting and fonts are interesting but I am no expert and with all the current evidence the public can't even accept that Rather is a liar on Bush's Service.

Do I think we can prove malfeasance with the 3 citations spanning 20 years -Yes absolutely.
Can the press explain it or even want to- I don't think so.
It is up to the Navy to provide convincing Adjudication now, and the Combat "V" on his Silver Star is a start but I'm afraid it's also an Admin error diversion from the bigger Fraud. As long as we keep the pressure up on all fronts – Even if by some fluke Kerry gets elected, he still has to run for re-election. Hell, I don’t want to even see him in our Senate.
