|
|
My father (now deceased) was a WWII Army Sgt. who served in Italy and North Africa. I requested his records for genealogical purposes from eVetRecs through the National Archives. What type of info is usually included in these records? I have his discharge papers which really doesn't give much info.
Thanks for any insight!

You can file an SF 180 and request his records, since he has passed and you are a relative. The info on the discharge will be enough for them to locate his records.
You can get a printable version of the Standard Form 180 online.
Here you go: (you'll need adobe reader, it's a PDF)

Um. Print TWO sets.
Send one to Senator Kerry's office. They may not have one. _________________ USMC 69-72, 7th Comm, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPAC

Thanks!!
I don't know too much about my dad's service except he was stationed at a POW camp in Italy.

There are POW associations that may be able to help you, once you get some details. That's a pretty close-knit community.
Or do you mean he was detailed as a POW guard in Italy?
Good luck on your quest! _________________ USMC 69-72, 7th Comm, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPAC
