Rather is capable of anything, who knows.

Interesting that CBS says that they are 'not part of' the Kerry campaign, however when the producer of 60 Minutes calls the Kerry camp and says 'call Bill' - they do, immediately.

Hmmmm.

No, am I too paranoid for wondering why the interview was in Austin and not DFW? Rather flew into DFW and then on to Austin.

Very few direct flights from NY to Austin.

Yes ASPB, but Abilene is closer to DFW or just as close. Rather could have saved time and energy doing it in Dallas. Why go on to Austin unless one wanted to hook up with the ********.

“I didn’t forge anything,” Burkett said. “I didn’t fake any documents. The only thing I’ve done here is to transfer documents from people I thought were real to people I thought were real. And that has been the limitation of my role. I may have been a patsy.”

Anyone else notice that Burkett apparently has imaginary friends?... "People I THOUGHT
were Real". This means clearly, that he no longer thinks these people are real anymore.

Well don't this beat all.

From the DNC website:

McAuliffe: Will GOP Answer If They Know Whether Stone, Others Had Involvement With CBS Documents?

Washington, D.C. - In response to false Republican accusations regarding the CBS documents, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued this statement:

“In today’s New York Post, Roger Stone, who became associated with political ‘dirty tricks’ while working for Nixon, refused to deny that he was the source the CBS documents.

“Will Ed Gillespie or the White House admit today what they know about Mr. Stone’s relationship with these forged documents? Will they unequivocally rule out Mr. Stone’s involvement? Or for that matter, others with a known history of dirty tricks, such as Karl Rove or Ralph Reed?”

Here's the Post link:

Quote:
The hot rumor in New York political circles has Roger Stone, the longtime GOP activist, as the source for Dan Rather's dubious Texas Air National Guard "memos."

The irony would be delicious, since Rather became famous confronting President Nixon, in whose service a very young Stone became associated with political "dirty tricks."

Reached at his Florida home, Stone had no comment

I'm speechless.

Unbelievable!! We have an admitted Bush Hater, who admittedly had contact with the DNC, who has concocted two different versions of how he came upon possesion of these documents, as well as statements he destroyed the "originals" and McAwful is still trying to blame Republicans?!?!?
A crime has been comitted, a man has confessed to passing the forgeries, a search warrant should be issued and his computer seized! Willing to bet cached away in his hard drive is that document!!

"Rather acknowledged Monday that Burkett didn't come to CBS. The network approached him about the documents, knowing he had been trying for several years to discredit President Bush's military service record, he said."

Hmmmm.......So somehow or other, CBS knew that the documents existed and that Burkett had them--So let's put the various pieces of the story that have been doled-out together--

Burkett said that he had been trying to get through to someone in the Kerry campaign without much luck--Finally, someone put him in touch with Max Cleland who talks to Burkett, perhaps briefly, but I think I recall that they both said that they'd talked--

Then.......somehow or other.......CBS comes to know about the docs and they contact Burkett--[conjecture]Burkett really wants to give them to, or at least get to talk to, someone relatively high on the Kerry campaign food chain, so he's resistant to giving them to Mary Mapes (remember that he said that CBS was "pressuring" him to turn them over) [/conjecture]--So he finally says "OK--I'll give you the documents I have which 'prove' your story if you'll get me in touch with Joe Lockhart or Terry McAuliffe 'cause I have some things I need to talk to them about and I haven't been able to get through"--So Mary Mapes makes a few phone calls and gets Joe Lockhart to agree to call Burkett--

Which, to my twisted mind, means that the trail of this thing leads to Max Cleland, highly regarded in liberal and journalistic circles and who would be considered, at least by the likes of Mary Mapes and Dan Rather, to be "unimpeachable"--We already know that Burkett had told him about the documents and I'll just bet that he's the one who went to CBS--

Whatever--Bottom line is that whoever got him in touch with CBS, Burkett's gonna spill the beans, more than likely sooner rather than later--The guy's not all that stable in the first place and he's not going to take kindly to being left holding the bag--He'll talk--It's only a matter of time--

And somewhere out there, someone knows it and is sweating--I like that thought!--C

Can you just imagine the howls of protest and screams for investigations had this associated with W?

When are we going to see them?

What a load of manure.
