Is my memory failing me, or did CBS say they had the documents for 6 weeks and had been "authenticating" them. According to this and other reports I've heard, they only had the documents for days (maybe a week) before going with the story. |

Your memory isn't failing you, I remember hearing that too.
CBS has done a lot of sticking it's foot in it's mouth over this one.
I don't know how successful a lawsuit is going to be though. There is no legal protection for the sources of news stories, and indeed reporters have gone to jail (contempt) for refusing to reveal them in court proceedings. While any competent atty would know that, I'm sure they are also aware of the liberal justices which try (and succeed) in creating law from the bench through judicial rulings. I think this might be one to keep an eye on, because if they succeed in suing CBS, they will have set a new precident for media irresponsibility. _________________ God Bless America, and God Bless the Swiftees! |

Ah....but Burkett gets to sue in TEXAS!
Don't expect too much sympathy for CBS in that venue. _________________ -Polaris

That's the awesome part, the prosecutors will be able to ask all of those questions that cBS has been hiding from. The defense willl be able to counter by asking Burkette a lot of interesting questions and both sides can present phone records showing various contacts with certain political parties. Sounds like a win-win to me!!!!
After hearing him talk on MSNBC, he sure is a sleaze. If there is no collusion on the part of cBS about this story, they really are gullible and should not be trusted to give news.
Also throw in the connections with Joe Lockhart between cBS and Burkette and you have direct connections to the Kerry campaign and the DNC. Wow, the MSM has their work cut out trying to LOOK fair while protecting one of their own and protecting their ideology.
It doesn't get any better than this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But they still have the nerve to treat the Swifties with disdain... their bias is obvious and thorough. |

Burkett just killed himself, now they can grill him under oath about it.
And it also removes any restrainsts from CBs to protect him (as if they had any)
He's probably just pissed someone found out and is going for petty revenge |

My feeling is that there will be a settlement and Burkett will be under a gag order not to reveal anything. _________________ Proud daughter of a VN vet. |

That still wouldn't protect any of those parties from a lawsuit started by GWB. I don't think he'll go down that road but just the threat of it would make a lot of headlines and keep it in the news. |
