Just saw a preview of GWB interview with O'Reilly. They were discussing the Swift Boat Ads. It would have been a perfect opportunity for GW to drive home Kerry's traitorous activities.. but he just sidestepped the issue. With all the dirt they are slinging at him you would think that he could at least discuss Kerry's post Vietnam War activities. Afterall, both campaigns have suggested that is fair territory. GW campaign advisers need to bring him "up to snuff" on a more productive and effective response to these kind of questions...especially before the debates!

I disagree. GW has to maintain the high road. If he makes any reference to Swift Boats Vets, or makes statements inforncing ADS. Then the Demo @#$@ will then make the case that the Swift Boat Vets are tied to him. And then ADS lose their importance. He has to stay where he has been on this. _________________ Retired 86 Army

I don't think he should come out and accuse Kerry of being a traitor... maybe just.... 'well, I know that he did do that, it was all over the news back then and now it is on the news again. It did hurt our veterans, and is starting to again with veterans of this war, and I do object to that. All of the American people should object to bad treatment of our Veterans. Our veterans of any war should be honored, supported and protected from that kind of treatment. The people will have to decide on Nov 2 - do they want a war protestor to be CIC of our military?' _________________ Stevie

Bush has to be especially careful not to give the Left Stream Media *ANY* opportunity to attempt to establish a linkage with the SBVT.
Besides, by taking the high ground, Bush can maintain a consistent and steadfast course, with is in SHARP contrast to his opponents, who change their minds at the drop of a hat, and are NEVER called on for any perceived "linkage" to the democratic party 527s. _________________ USMC 69-72, 7th Comm, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPAC

I think dubya did the right thing. This issue is more appropriate for
Kerry's fellow vets to take on. I think the dems would love to see
Bush jump into the frey and give them a real reason to blast away at
his ANG service. He kept to the high ground, and I'm sure he knows and has an oppinion on the whole matter. He may not be the most articulate
guy I've ever seen, but he is NOT dumb. _________________

Nope, zip, zero, no mention of the Swifties, no matter how it might disappoint us. Anything he says will be misconstrued by the MSM and Kerry supporters. No, nada.

Let's get him re-elected and then all these issues will have a chance to be heard. Then Bush should be approachable and I would hope and trust that Oneill et al, could broker a forum or some way to have these issues aired. (The public will get tired of something that many don't really know about or still want to just ignore or bought into 'it's just over and done with'.) But a movement has started that has the potential of growing. But not if Bush is not in office. CTW

This needs to be left up to the swiftvets and ALL Viet Nam vets against Hanoi Johnny. We speak as one and WE know the TRUTH! Bush needs to stay out of it. Hanoi Johnny will not win this fight, we as veterans will be triumphant. _________________ Viet Nam vet and PROUD! |

you know, I like that W isn't the polished, glib speaker that say Clinton is....at least I know it's mostly him speaking... Clinton and Kerry types= ugh! W reminds me more of every day American people... we all blow it now and again (and me a lot) in our speaking... but no, he is not dumb!
also, to hear the demos talk, then no one with a speech defect or lisp or any kind of disability etc better ever try to run for office! how disgusting!
and when demos bring up his pronounciation of nuclear, (he, by the way, from what i've read, says it the same way Jimmy carter did) it just reminds me of how Kennedy said 'Cuber' instead of Cuba and Kerry trying to say Ghengis Kahn (my spelling?) or withdrawing - he says 'withdrawRing' - kerry screws up another word really bad, but I can't thnk of it right now. _________________ Stevie

By staying out of it, and barely even responding to the
forgery-based allegations on the TX ANG, Bush is giving
the SBVFT needed credibility. Bush is steering clear of
anything prior to Kerry's career as a politician.
The SBVFT vs. Kerry is a personal and professional
matter between vets and Kerry. Many of these vets are
Democrats, and have no real affection for Bush. It is
important that the electorate understand this, so that
they examine the SBVFT arguments in that light, and
not as normal campaign mud slinging.
I get the strong sense that Bush is trying (vainly) to
"elevate" the debate and stay on issues. The RNC's
strategy never included the Swift issue, and probably
had to be adjusted on the fly to account for the
phenomenon. To the RNC, it's probably a loose
cannon on deck. It might smash incompetent watch
officer LTJG Kerry, but it also might wreck the ship. |

Ahem. The president was and is being PRESIDENTIAL.
Y'all remember 4 years ago when he was branded as not having "gravi tas" ?
President Bush has more honor and integrity in his dirty socks then Kerry will ever have and he shows it each day. _________________ Why ask? Because it needs asking. |

The prez has to stay out of this. Like a post earlier, stay on the high road. Hit the issues. Kerry won't hold up to the president's attacks on the issues. However, if Kerry is stupid enough to raise some of these issues in the debates, I bet dollars to donuts, the prez and his team will be prepared for a response.

Very well put. Nicely layed out logic.
