There have been a couple of new state polls out over the past few days. With one exception, they continue to show Gore states moving toward George W. Bush. New Jersey has become a toss-up, Bush is down just two in Michigan, and Minnesota has moved to dead even. The lone exception seems to be Pennsylvania. Over the past week or so, that state has moved back towards Kerry.

Whether it's New Hampshire or Maine, Minnesota or Michigan, or Iowa or New Mexico, things are moving towards Bush slowly but surely. My only concern comes from Pat Caddell. In 1980, the polls were moving towards Carter in the last ten days and he argued against a debate. He didn't want to affect the movement to Carter. We all know what happened.

The one big difference between now and then is likability. The country found Reagan likable and competent. While I'll stay worried until November 3, I find it unlikely that Kerry will come across as likable. If the media find a way to do that, then all bets are off.

Carter was an idiot and never stood a chance against Reagan. My memories of Carter are mile long gas lines, 17 percent interest on my first house and his total flubbing of all of his dealing with Iran which in part has led to our present war. Carter should just go back to Venezuala and stay there. I'm sure the government there would be more then happy to keep him comfortable.

Although I never say never, I'm not losing much sleep over this election. There's no way I can see Kerry out-dueling Bush in the debates. To me when Kerry smiles he looks like he's in pain. Now that he has that fake tan he'll come off even worse looking and the realities are that what people look at in these debates are the candidate themselves not really that much what they say.

I'm sure Kerry will fly in Michael Jackson's makeup artist in time to make him look more natural for the debate.
Unless he salutes. Then he really looks goofy.

It's all about ratings.

If they say it's a horse race they get ratings,

If it's not close there is no story.

They said the same about Carter and Reagan

I bought into the "Carter as regular guy" theory and voted for him back then. Over the next 4 years I learned to regret that vote, in fact I have voted independant but never democratic in a presidential race since then.

The failed rescue mission in Iran was a perfect representation of the entire Carter presidency when it came to defense.

And those stinking gas lines, I remember having to set aside an entire afternoon just to wait in line for gas. Plus you could only go on even days if your license plate was even, or odd days if odd. Hmm, which makes me wonder what would they do today in this day of alphabetic vanity plates?
