Damn didn't even think about that, I'd part with my first born before my P38.

Sorry Highwayman;

Just outside of Ft Bragg, home of the Airborne. Close enough to hear the copper's coming in and out of Simmons AAF. When the US Naval Infantry Auxiliery Laughing , just kidding guys, comes to town they can rattle my windows when the big guns fire into the impact area.

Sounds and smells bring back memories.

You can have my P38 when you pry it from my cold dead hands! Wink
Hey, C-rats weren't so bad, were they?

No spray & pray here. All I need is 100 rounds, one shot-one goner.
.308 FN FAL G-1 w/ Hensoldt/Wetzlar Stanag scope and 9mm Browning High Power. That's the ticket.

c-rats were f'n terrible. 1 or 2 good meals outta 12 and it was a fight to get those. For you MRE era dudes, P38 is the goverment issue can opener. You can tell a guy with time in the bush by what?

a. State of his utilities
b. 1000 yard stare
c. how fast he opens his c-rats.

Answer: All of the above. Laughing

My lasting memory of the C-rats was a '50's vintage hot chocolate hockey puck.
While in the field, I broke one up and put it with hot water in my canteen. Needless to say the puck hardened on the bottom and I could taste the damn thing for weeks. I finally had to punch a hole in the canteen just to get a new one.

I spent one cruise with a bum cook onboard. I learned to lay in a
supply of Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee from the Subic Commissary for the rest
of the cruise. Bum cook was replaced upon arrival in Long Beach
with the best damn cook ever so it wasn't a complete waste of time
on that ship. Very Happy

I recall putting Kool Aide in my plastic canteen. Bad move couldn't get the grape taste outta my coffee. Recall for awhile all smokes w/o filters in c-rats so they had to be vintage Korean war at least. That chocolate puck was truly awful also. These new guys don't realize how good the MRE's are in comparisson. I try and keep a couple cases around the house and I can't keep my 15 yr old outta them.

Oh those eggs and ham were precious werent they? Ive always kept MREs handy, normally about 2 weeks worth for the family. I also keep water available. Water is more important and I believe more at risk. It would surprise me if these animals went for our water supply. A successful attack and breach of a "special energy facility" along the shores of the great lakes would have a catostraphic effect on our water supply. That is, of course, if you survived the initial hosedown of cesnium.................................Rich
