80+ minutes with some fine Americans.

To the Swift Boat Vets:

Thanks for your service then and thanks for your service now. You knew you would not be greeted with hosannas and hallelujahs by the elite culture, but you still have gone to the trouble to come out and sound the truth. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Your fan, Steve Barton, USA Retired

Audio works well, but the video link on C-Span just hangs. Wonder if it's getting overloaded.

.
I have had reccuring feelings of depression for over thirty-five years that
are the result of Senator Kerry's allegations, both in 1971 and since then,
that reflect on MY service on Swifts .
.
Most of today was spent with my adult step-son, a Vietnamese who I
riaised from childhood. And those feelings came to the fore again.
.
Yesterday's news event was either ignored or discredited by the media,
and I had to look my son in the eye and re-afirm, in response to his queries,
that the things that Kerry is saying about his country's heritage are untrue.
.
It has not been a good day.
.
I had missed the news conference on Tuesday and the replay on C-span.
So I appreciate the posting of the audio playback site. Although it brought
tears to my eyes, it did re-enforce my decision to join this worthy effort.
.
Thank you Steve. And my sincere appreciation to my shipmates for the effort.
.
My greatest concern is that this message will be lost in the massive smear
campaign that has already been put forward to discredit the outstanding
sailors and officers that have had the courage, using their own resources,
to correct the "Hollywood Versus History" that seems to be the cornerstone
of one individuals bid for the presidency of the United States.
.
I have personally witnessed, in the Swift Boat discussion group, the lengths
to which the Kerry campaign will go to in their attempts to silence any contrary
opinions of sailors that served on the very boats that he claims made him
a war hero.
.
Validity of medals is NOT the question raised, per se. The willingness of
the Senator to say anything and do anything, regardless of consequences
to others, in order to further his political career is what makes him "unfit
to be the Commander-in-Chief" Dewey Canyon and Winter Soldier are
just two examples that need to given more visibilty to voters.
.
If anyone doubts the feeling of compassion and responsibility by Swift Boat
sailors to the people they were defending , they should listen to the oral
story of the two Swift Boat sailors at the following URL. If war crimes were
committed by Ltjg Kerry, they were acts of severe bad judgement on his
part. Not ONE of the the other sailors that served on the boats considered
anything other than the best way to accomplish the mission in the most
humanitarian way possible ... we followed the Rules of Engagement to the
letter and beyond. Without regard to submission for awards of any kind.

Hi all,

I put the audio from the news conference online in a format that can be played with any internet connection. I encourage all to right click on the link above and download the audio file for safe keeping in case I am forced to pull it by my virtual host.

I think the Swift Vet news conference is one of the most potent, moving political statements of our time. The 2004 Democratic presidential nominee is a turncoat, a traitor to his country, who has no place in the candidacy for the presidency of our nation.

That this story was grossly misreported and unreported by the leftist media is telltale of the struggle we are facing. There are enemies in our midst that we need to stand against. Hence, my Declaration Of War:

Unfortunately, the press event was overshadowed by the current media hoopla over the Iraqi prisoner abuse issue.

not to mention obfuscated.

I noted a rather curious lack of depth in the NY Times coverage...

Quote:
Veterans Group Criticizes Kerry on His Record in Vietnam
By JODI WILGOREN
Published: May 5, 2004

<snip>

Kerry aides immediately dismissed the new group as a tool of President Bush's re-election campaign and accused it of engaging in "Nixonian dirty tricks."

Regarding Dr. Letson's recollection of Mr. Kerry's wound, Michael Meehan, a campaign spokesman, noted that a different person, J. C. Carreon, had signed the "sick call sheet" summarizing treatment of the injury, and asked, "Who is this guy? How do we know that he was the doctor who treated him?"

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/05/politics/campaign/05VETS.html

That's IT on the PH#1 medical record issue as far as the NYTimes coverage is concerned. Apparently the answer to Meehan's rhetorical query was there, as the LA Times seemed to get it right...

Quote:
Crew Contradicted Kerry Over Battle, Doctor Alleges
Fresh criticism of the senator's record in Vietnam is dismissed by his campaign.
By Stephen Braun, Times Staff Writer

<snip>

Meehan questioned Letson's role, saying a J.C. Carreon signed Kerry's medical report of the wound. "This gentleman is not the man who is on the report," he said.

Letson said Carreon, a lower-ranking "hospitalman," was "present at the time and he, in fact, made the entry into Lt. Kerry's medical record which has only recently been made available to the public." Letson, 63, was a Navy lieutenant as well as a medical officer at the time.

All in all, a good start tho...and an awesome post Mr. Shirley.

Webmaster, can statements from swift vets like Bob Shirley's above be gathered together in a sticky archive at the top of the message board? God knows they warrant it.

You're welcome!

And thank you Swift Vets for fighting for America and for taking a stand now when your opinions are so very important to this nation's future.
