Just finished watching the debate.
In my opinion Bush made the connection with the American people. He looked at the camera alot during the debate and Kerry didn't, not even once, until his closing statement.
Also, Kerry's statement about having to pass a "global test" before a preemptive strike was a real eye opener and Bush jumped on it.
Kerry kept saying he could "do better", but never said HOW. Kept saying he had a plan, but wouldn't say WHAT. Just the same ole yada yada.
Bush landed some real punches by talking about how Kerry insulted our allies, including Allawi. How he sent the wrong message by saying this was the wrong war at the wrong time, etc.
It was a hands down Bush victory on points landed. Bush just spoke from the heart and Kerry seemed like his stuffy stiff ole empty suit self. |

Right now they're running
Kerry 84%
Bush 12%
Even 4%
as to who won the debate. No indication of the number of votes. _________________ The traitor will crater! |

Is that not what the VVAW was all about?

Finally got around to registering here...
I'm a diehard Bush supporter; the debate of course does not change that. For me personally, I found the debate boring. Both stuck to their talking points, and as a result it was almost like watching two simultaneous campaign rallies.
That notwithstanding, my wife also watched the debate. She is very much apolitical, and pays nearly no attention to these type of things.
Her response to the debate - and perhaps this sounds immature - was that it made her scared. I suspect it was all the talk of nuclear prolifieration, threats, etc.
Now, I have no way of knowing if other women (or men for that matter) reacted this way. But the debate somehow managed to get across to her the point that I've been unable to for some time now - that security is the first, formost and virtually only concern in this election. And we all know Bush holds a huge advantage in how people perceive their safety under each candidate.
So maybe it wasn't the KO I'd hoped for, but at this point, anything that reinforces national security as the primary issue in this campaign is a huge win for the President.

I can sum up this debate in one sentence: Kerry was speaking to Jim Lehrer; Bush was talking to America. _________________ USMC 69-72, 7th Comm, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPAC

I love W but I think Kerry won this debate. Sorry to say that but it's my honest opinion.
GWB had some good responses but Kerry did not hurt himself and looked "presidential".
Too bad, I was hoping for an obviois flub but the average voter who pays no attention to his newly invented opinion will problably give the nod to the flipper on this one. |

Good job Genexr and others! I am sure Mr. japan and others not inthe US thank you. Hey - I want to get back to something earlier - did Kerry lose anyone close in his 4 months in Vietnam? He said he did during the debate , I don't remember that coming up before....
p.s. karen Hughes on Hannity right now (actually Colmes interviewing)

There's a HUGE difference between LOOKING presidential, and BEING presidential.
Kerry was more polished, and Bush was more honest.
I think it boils down to whether you want someone running the country that looks good, or someone who does good. _________________ USMC 69-72, 7th Comm, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPAC

My first reaction was that Kerry won..however, have some breathing..I myself had such high expectations for Bush, that I think I was disappointed. So, objectively, a tie. Bush had a chance to slam dunk this and he did not. CNN poll??? please..we know where that is leading..to Comrade Schnieder and his analysis..
however a good article to be read:
http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/elections/article.adp?id=20040930112609990001
a bit slanted toward Kerry..but what the heck, fair to say the least..
