I think the President did very well. He was the man I've come to expect him to be, solid, consistent. It's not his style to get into an attack, I wasn't suprised when he missed some of his chances let Kerry have it.
I think he's tired tonight. He was out campaigning today, and is generally an early riser. Heck, he's probably already hit the hey.
And NavyX3, I thought Lehrer WAS fairly subdued tonight. Thankfully. _________________

I'm watching Hannity and he's right. Take a look at the transcripts when they come out. This guy had so many lies and distortions tonight that he's going to get hammered. _________________ Bill Hershey

Kerry may of sounded good tonight but what will happen is people will isolate all his inconsistancys he said tonight and its going to come crashing down on him.
I heard way to many that once compaired to what he has been saying the truth or well his not so truth will show _________________ Proud Daughter of a Bronze Star Awarded Father-Iraqi Freedom

The only other prob is that I have 3 close friends here... 2 are Brit... 1 is Azzi.... 1 Azzi and 1 Brit agree with me about the political situation in the states... the other Brit is a typical "Moore-on" and believes whatever comes from the MSM and Moore.... so sad. Peggy Noonan is cracking me up with Hannity right now. Making good points, too. |

Why did the Bush team ever agree to have the debates so totally in control of the liberals? |

What must it be like to be a GI in Iraq and hear Kerry say that it was a mistake? Which reminds me - One of the best questions was whether Kerry thought this war was a mistake. Lehrer even repeated the "the last man to die for a mistake" quote. Kerry's answer absolutely sucked! He would not admit that he thinks Iraq was a mistake even though he argued for 90 minutes that it was!
The more people think about what Kerry actually said the better. It will take a few days to know for sure who won but I think Bush will come out ahead.

Cheer up people! Have ya'll forgotten what Dick Morris said on Fox the other day. Kerry alienated about 1/3 of his base tonight by saying he would absolutely stay the course in Iraq and would keep troops there until we won the peace. The "doves" of his base are totally against that stand. They want out of Iraq NOW and think it's an illegal war.
Yet, Bush gained some swing voters tonight because of his steadfastness and good rebuttals.
NEVER FEAR! Bush is the winner. The MSM can bloviate all they want to and give the debate to Kerry. The FACT is that Kerry hurt himself and Bush helped himself. Bottom line will be on Nov. 2 |

Who do you think won the first U.S. presidential debate?
President George W. Bush 17% 6776 votes
Sen. John Kerry 79% 31223 votes
Evenly matched 3% 1306 votes
Total: 39305 votes

Bush won.
Here is why I think this is true.
Kerry lied, and streched the truth several times. Kerry was evasive, and spent most of his time on what Bush did 'wrong' (which is where the lies and deception come in), and not on what he would do. So, Kerry talked about Bush.
Bush was on point, and did not say anything new. Bush was positive, and used his closing two minutes to make an optimistic speech. Bush talked about things that he has done. Bush talked about Bush.
Bush was 'pro-America', Kerry was not.
Kerry appeared to be a 'slick a** politician', Bush appeared to be your dad.
The spin is to the left, but the truth is that the people watching will see the 'lies' exposed in the next day or so. Too many people are now looking at the comments that were made - and the truth is that Kerry mislead the public, and in some cases simply lied about things, or made them up.
For the first twenty minutes the CBS documents looked pretty damning to Joe Viewer. Now, Joe Viewer is less apt to be sucked into the leftist spin in the media.
Kerry lied. Several times. Bush nailed him several times for lying and attempting to deceive, and then, given the opportunity to personally trounce Kerry, declined and took the high road.
So, Bush won - because he is the better man, and this is America. Spin be damned. |

I guess I'm blind. If Kerry is such a great debater, why did he mess up so many times (I was expecting him to be more perfect). Also, the internationalism stuff came off as just plain weird to me. |

I'm 100% Bush, but I believe it was a lot closer than I wanted it to be. Bush looked tired as he spent a good part of the day touring the hurricane damage in Florida. Kerry again went after Bush rather than stating what he would actually do in Iraq that would be different from the President. Bush seemed to hold back too much-there were a number of areas he could have nailed Kerry but seemed to let him go. I believe this debate won't change any voters minds as yet. It's still going to be a close race in the next few weeks. Here's hoping for a tougher Bush next week. With a son in Iraq, I'm praying for Bush to carry on as our CinC. _________________ Gary Armitstead
