Has anyone done research into exactly how many vets won 3 (or more) purple hearts in VN and opted to get sent home? How common was this? How many stayed? |

The only one in TF 115 was Kerry during the entire war. In 68-69 I served in TF-117 (Riverine) and TF-116 (Patrol). I am aware of only one in these units and he would probably not have gone home on his 3rd except it was a serious injury that required medevac to the States. I believe he lost an arm.
I did know at least 3 guys who received 3 but did not request rotation based upon the receipt of 3 PHs. The regulation was not mandatory, it was optional upon request. _________________ On Sale!
