What won Howard his fourth term in Government was his steadfast support of the US on war on terror and his Governments handling of the economy.

"I think at this stage of the evening it's going to be almost impossible for Labor to win this election," Labor Senator Robert Ray told Nine Network television.
Ray later said Labor might lose up to 10 of the 64 seats it holds in the 150-seat national parliament.
Australia's 13 million voters faced a choice between Howard's government, which unreservedly backs the United States and its Iraq war, and Labor, which wants stronger ties with Asia.
Voting is obligatory in Australia, and ballots were cast at more than 7,000 voting stations from the dusty outback to the Antarctic.
Polling booths in the most populous eastern states closed at 6 p.m. (0800 GMT) and election officials expected to have half the votes counted within two-and-a-half hours.
With voting in the west continuing for another two hours, a result was expected to be known late on Saturday. Bookmakers heavily favored Howard over Latham.
The election pits Howard, 65, a master politician seen by voters as bland but safe, against fiery 43-year-old Mark Latham, who has a colorful turn of phrase but is still perceived as a relatively unknown quantity after only 10 months in the job.
A Newspoll in the Australian newspaper earlier on Saturday showed the two sides split 50-50 on a two-party preferred basis, where minor party preferences are distributed to major parties until a winner is declared. An ACNielsen poll in the Sydney Morning Herald had the government ahead 54 percent to 46 percent.
Queues had formed early at one polling station in the Sydney beachside suburb of Clovelly when polls opened under brilliant sunny skies in Australia's biggest city. Continued ...

Great to have this news from down under. Australia is probably America's most reliable ally. They have been softened up by a guilt-driven Leftwing media, at least not yet.
And apparently the appeal of Kerry's sister, who went down there to try to demoralize them, telling them that their participation in Iraq was increasing the threat of terrorism, fell on deaf ears.
Why isn't the story about Kerry's sister -- Diana? -- getting more play, and criticism, in the MSM? I'll tell you why, in just two words. Media Bias. No, make that four words: Sinister leftwing media bias.

No thanks to Kerry's sister. I would like to believe this is a direct repudiation of her and her nonsense. But I'm sure it's just the result of Howard being a strong leader. |
