I had some initial hopes for this story. Unfortunately Mr. Cornwell appears oblivious to the fact that none of the Swiftvet charges have been refuted. Rather (if you'll pardon the expression), they've been ignored.
Quote: | US news giants tread carefully
The Bush-Kerry race for the White House could hardly be tighter. So where are all the scoops and scandals
asks Rupert Cornwell
10 October 2004
<snip>
Nothing shakes up a campaign like an old-fashioned scoop. But this year has not produced a newspaper or TV story that remotely matches The Wall Street Journal's revelations in 1992 about Bill Clinton's manoeuvrings to avoid the Vietnam draft, which nearly finished his candidacy even before the New Hampshire primary. But now, just as then, the biggest story has not come from the mainstream media at all. In 1992, The Star, a tabloid, brought the world the tale of Bill Clinton and Gennifer Flowers. This year, the organisation that has most influenced the election contest has been Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, whose $50,000 TV ad campaign in August cast doubt on John Kerry's war record.
<snip>
Meanwhile, the mainstream media plod on, prisoners of their own well-meaning doctrine of balance. What could be fairer than to give each side an equal airing? Not, however, if fairness means giving as much air time or column inches to charlatans as to truth-tellers. Precisely that happened, Kerry supporters say, with the Swift Boat ads, which were largely discredited by other veterans.

It appears that the author(s) just missed an opportunity at a good story. If they had just explored the 'why' of the negatives, and replaced them with positive truths, could have been a ground breaker.. _________________ said Democratic Chairman Terry McAuliffe. The left always seems to include this little prevarication. Six that support Kerry call them lies and the media ignores several thousands of veterans that back the SBVT.
They call that objective? _________________ Clark County Conservative |

This so-called journalist is far, far to the left of being liberal. He is basically no different than Robert Fisk, of "I deserved to be beaten up by the Taliban" fame. _________________ US Army Security Agency

Here's an October surprise: more media bias, especially in Oregon. Associated Press wrote: | ...Oregonian newspaper announced its endorsement of Kerry....
Oregonian | And here's another surprise. Kerry ridicules Bush's scowls. He does this because he cannot. Why, you ask? Because his face is so full of botox, he cannot move his eyebrows! Reuters wrote that Kerry wrote: | ...The reason I thought he was making all those scowling faces was because he saw the latest job numbers and he feels like most Americans -- pretty upset about them...
Netscape News with CNN | He thinks we really didn't notice and just in case, he's tossed out this little diversion. _________________ '58 Airedale HMR(L)-261 VMO-2 |
