Folks, an idea just occured to me while reading the "Sinclair" thread. If other cable TV companies are like mine, there are several "channels" in the lineup dedicated to "local access" programming. They basically will air almost anything (suitable, of course, for family viewing) and I've seen, on innumerable ocassions, home videos of anything from how to scale fish to a celebration of Aunt Mabel's 50th anniversary of spinsterhood.

Anyone out there familiar with what the perameters might be to air Swiftee ads and "Stolen Honor" on the local access cable channels preceded by a LARGE advert in some local publication?

Great Idea. I googled for some information and came up with some information that might help:

Hmmmmm....this sounds promising...

Quote:
Public access consists of video programming and other electronic information produced, directed, and engineered by community volunteers. Public access serves a wide range of individuals and community-based non-profit organizations. It serves the entire local community, including children, minorities, the elderly, the homeless, the disabled, immigrants, artists, philosophers, educators, and others who are otherwise unrepresented or underrepresented in the mainstream commercial media. Organizations served include churches and synagogues, social services and clubs, local political party organizations, neighborhood schools and regional colleges, neighborhood and citizen special interest groups, and community cultural and economic development groups, among other mainstream media marginalized communities (the vast majority of public service organizations do not have the resources, tools, or staff needed to fully utilize the electronic media -- the largest disseminator of information in the 90's.)

That last one sure fits Veterans Against Kerry and SVPT (am I and my neighbor a "marginalized community"?).

WOW! I am so glad that you all are having this discussion because I almost started a new thread and am glad I didn't have to clutter the forum with a duplicate topic! I read the article in the Washington Post this morning about the Sinclair group so I went on their website and found a comment address, comments@sbgi.net, and sent them a message thanking them for airing Stolen Honor.

Then, I picked up the phone and called their corporate headquarters and talked to the receptionist (who was extremely nice and friendly) to express my thanks. I also found out that they do not have any stations in the DC Metropolitan area and I'd have to go to Baltimore or Richmond to watch the program!!

I asked if there was any possibility that they might offer the video on their website and she suggested that I call back next week after the showing to ask for that.

I'd like to urge everyone to call and put in a request for the video on their website! The main number is 410-568-1500.

If we bombard them with requests, perhaps they will agree to post it! What do you think? Very Happy
