First, as a citizen of McAllen, let me clarify the comment on Drudge about Hidalgo county being a Dem stronghold...yes it is true, but ONLY because we have an overabundance of poorly educated people (hispanic) who have been taught for decades that the Repbulicans "are just for the rich" and only Dems will give them more welfare. Hidalgo county is one of the least educated and poorest counties in the entire USA! In additon, Texas has whats called "straight ticket voting", meaning you can pull one lever and vote the entire ticket from top to bottom for one party. It was designed with the illiterate in mind. Thus you have "jala la planca" or pull the lever taught to the uniformed by Dem operatives in return for a BBQ plate. Happily, most of Texas is far sharper and on the ball than the Valley. Voter turnout is also historically low despite the questionable efforts of Dem operatives and the Valley's lagging Dem voting pattern does not effect the entire state. By the way, in case you stealth libs wanna call me bigoted, I AM HISPANIC, born, raised & educated in Hidalgo county but this little lady was taught by her daddy to think for herself!

Just imagine if we had listened to such military experts as Jesse Jackson and Ted Kennedy back in '90 as they forcasted a 6 mo. ground war and 50,000 American casualties to eject Saddam out of Kuwait. Imagine if we hadnt stopped him there and he'd had an opportunity to finsih his plan. Next up, and within 6 mos, would have been Saudi Arabia. Without Yank military backing the shieks and rich goat herders would hjave been on the first airplane out of there to their villas in the Alps. Theres no way the Saudis could have stopped the Iraqis themselves.

And from there its a short jaunt to taking the rest of the Gulf States. Again, places not known for their fighting abilities. With 1/2 the worlds known oil reserves under his control now Saddam would eventually get his revenge against Iran. I think he'd wait to get nukes, which he'd already have if the Jews hadnt bombed Osirak. It might take a few years but he'd get to Tehran too, or anhiliate it.

Now, cause we listened to the 'no blood for oil fools", Saddam would be a 2nd Nebechanezzar sitting astride a huge oil rich empire. And the rest of the world, especially France and Germany, would be in line to kiss his ring and buy his oil. Eventually he'd attack the Jews and the whole region would go up in flames.

All in all it wasnt a bad plan. If a democrat had been in office he'd probably had gotten away with it but Bush sr was quick to grasp the eventual outcome if we didnt fight. He'd already lived thru, and fought against, a few Saddams. But remember the strength of the "no blood for oil" crowd back then?

Unfortunatly for Saddam he misunderstood the American people and utterly failed to comprehend modern war. Like Hitler Saddam had very little interection with the rest of the world and being a meglomaniac dictator he was incapable of ever seeing fault in a plan he made. The rest is history. The Iraqis encountered a 21'st century military juggernaught they couldnt even understand let alone defend against. And they got slaughtered.

But lets not ever forget how close Saddam came to his "Oil Empire". And that if he did it would have been a disaster for America and the rest of the western world..............................Rich
