After watching the programme on MNSBC yesterday on Kerry and this morning watching him giving a speech in Boston I was drawn to the fact that he still gives that clenched fist type of salute that he gave back during his Vietnam days. Perhaps someone could elaborate on what this stood for .

Old habits die hard for Kerry. A raised, clenched fist was and is
used as a gesture of defiance by a number of groups (and old
friends of Kerrys). It is usually considered to be hostile and
is used by communists and other nationalist or ethnic
revolutionary or would-be revolutionary movements, and
with the Black Power movements of the 1960s here in the US.
Kerry's going back to his old ways - he and his friends (i.e. Fonda)
used the closed fist salute; Black Panthers (funded by Fonda)
used it as a slogan to describe the aspiration of many Africans
(whether they be in Africa or abroad) to national self-determination
- the idea that African people should have their own government
and not be subjects of any alien government or imperialist power.
The term "alien government" refers to a government populated by
non-Africans and with institutions that build on non-African traditions;
Communism, or communist society, is the name of the social
formation, which, according to Marx, would be a classless society
in which all property is owned by the community as a whole, and
where all people enjoy equal social and economic status.
Communism in its original meaning is a social theory and political
movement for the direct and communal control of society towards
the common benefits of all members (politics sound familiar?).

Power to the people, revolution and all that other anti-American sentiment.

Yep...watchin' Kerry with that fist raised makes it feels like we are watching the peace freaks from the 60's and 70's or to put it another way...the walking dead! That raised fist is totally lame Rolling Eyes
However, it truly shows the mind set of Kerry types!

Only for now. Actually, IMO, they're like the pigs who rally the other animals against the farmer. And you know what happened to the pigs after the farmer was gone. Kerry seems to have a habit of moving into the big house.

As noted on another thread, the clenched "black power" salute is obnoxious coming from Kerry, as is the Eastern mystic bow to the crowd. What a freakin' dork!

That's actually scary. I nevr noticed before but I believe you are right. He may be "nuanced" but the fist is pretty obvious.

The fist doesn't bother me, but the "praying hands" thing he does. As if he is in the presence of Uncle Ho, really grates.
