just when I was ready to believe things could improve, a new study destroys everything I'd thought was true in one fell swoop:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1798944,00.html
Quote: | “The non-religious, proevolution democracies contradict the dictum that a society cannot enjoy good conditions unless most citizens ardently believe in a moral creator.
“The widely held fear that a Godless citizenry must experience societal disaster is therefore refuted.”
|
I was unable to cross-check the above factually. |

What in hell is a non-religious, proevolution democracy? This is swill. This is a statement made by a fool. A democracy can only exist in the presence of an educated citizenry which necessarally goes along with a moral foundation for the basis of the society and its rule of law. The premise of the subject statement is of course a non sequitor. _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69 |

GM Strong.
I hope that you understand that the United States is NOT a democracy. In a democracy there are direct elections and referendums where the citizens vote directly for their leaders and laws. The United States is a REPUBLIC. In a republic we have representative government where the citizens elect representatives that vote for them on the many issues to be decided. (i.e., Senators, Congressmen, the electoral college, etc.)

Just notice the source - the UK! There's more garbage coming out of the UK media now than I can stomach. It's the socialist set that has taken root there. |

This is a Federal Republic, but we often speak in generic terms of democracy. Pure democracy is mob rule on a large scale. Local governement is the foundation of our Republic and is more democratic in nature. A rule of law needs a moral foundation. _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69 |

GM Strong,
I especially like the way you put it, "Pure democracy is mob rule on a large scale."
I think that's just how the liberals like it.
