I edited the images to clean up the Official Copy Stamp and make the file sizes smaller. I also tried to get rid of the Xerox "speckles"

Here is a list of Secretary of the Navy to add some time sense to the files:

John H. Chafee
January 31, 1969 - May 4, 1972

John W. Warner
May 4, 1972 - April 8, 1974

J. William Middendorf
April 8, 1974 - January 20, 1977

W. Graham Claytor, Jr.
February 14, 1977 - August 24, 1979

Edward Hidalgo
October 24, 1979 - January 20, 1981

John Lehman
February 5, 1981 - April 10, 1987

James H. Webb
May 1, 1987 - February 23, 1988

Please note that John Lehman's tenure covered the start of Kerry's senate career and was FAR after the SS medal event.

The first citation states it also has the "V" for valor. Someone on this site has previously said this is not possible or is incredibly rare. I am certainly no expert in this area. Any comments from those who know?! From what I can tell, the "V" has been removed in the 2nd and 3rd Citations.

Whoops. I think I made a mistake. I was refering to the DD214 which states the Silver Star "V"

There is no V device for a Silver Star. The award is only awarded for valor in combat just like the Navy Cross and the CMH. Whoever wrote the "V device" citation didn't know the rules. A politician maybe......?

Yes, he was doubly idotic if this is true. He should have been relieved of duty.

I have never heard of citations being reissued eleven or more years later just to pretty nearly copy the original and have it signed by SecNav instead of CinCPacFlt. Can anyone think of any sort of rationale for this?

I think they removed the Silver Star Citation because of my previous posts like the one below that mentions Kerry's Boston Fax number as being on the top and that it was created by lmiranda whoever that is.

You can download the docs I have that are from Paperless Archives, which originally were exactly the same as the ones on Kerry's website below.

You will notice the fax number at the top of the Silver Star Citation.

Navy Navy Navy, Did you want to post the 1st Silver Star Citation? I think it is the linch pin to understanding the distortions of 2&3.

-Also be advised that the 1st citation only has Kerry beaching his PCF once when he kills the lone VC after the initial firefight down stream. The citation states that before the ambush they were headed to an insertion point when he simultaneously coordinated the insertion of the embarked troops. An insertion of troops is not the same as running your boat aground and leaving the infantry aboard which Kerry later did.

- Just a note, Without Kerry's single handedly killing a lone VC, would he still qualify for the Silver Star for the other stuff that day? unlikely

Quote:
Silver Star-The heroic act(s) performed must render the individual conspicuous and well above the standard expected. An accumulation of minor acts of heroism normally does not justify the award
