This has been discussed in other message threads...
Basically it appears that candidate Kerry, after being turned down for a student deferment to get his Masters in Pollitical Science, went to the Navy and applied for OCS. It can take several months to get a slot - the Navy enlisted him in the Naval Reserve to keep him from being drafted while waiting for a slot. I don't think that procedure was all that unusual. |

All officer's except for Academy grads start out as reserve officers. Initially they are enlisted into the inactive reserves as an E-3 until they complete either ROTC or OCS training, at that point they become active reserves. The soonest one can be offered a regular commission is at the two year point.
I do think they now make the top 10% of ROTC graduates regular instead of reserve. But then only academy grads started as reserve officers. |

Hi,
Another point that goes unreported by the MSM!
Kerry's own site shows his enlistment into the -- Reserves.
The difference?
A name. Both could be called.
I have seen references in other posts about Bush volunteering to go but two other pilots got the nod. Where is that source information?

I can only speak for the Air Force, but "back then" ('64) the top 10% of the OTS graduates were offered a Regular Air Force Commission. (I was one.) |

methinks the RNC (or at least advisors) are reading this board closely.
I salute George Bush for taking my advice in a post a long time ago.
but more so for telling the simple truth. |
