|
|
I just heard the last 10 min or so of Rush. He talked about either a senator or representative who is introducing legislation that it is a crime punishable by up to 5 years in prison to slander a politician.
I had to answer the phone, so I wasn't able to catch who the politician is nor the referenced newspaper.
If anyone else heard this or knows something about it, would you please post.

I didn't have time on my original post to state emphatically that this should be a call to declare WAR!
Don't assume that it will not get struck down.
We have to attack this from the gitco.
Remember McCain-Feingold?

Hey Jack:
It requires more information than I am comfortable giving. Could you possibly post the text of the article?
Thanks in advance.

Looks like a proposal in the state Senate?
Quote: | http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3121536
(Columbia-AP) March 24, 2005 - A North Myrtle Beach senator is proposing a bill to send people to prison for up to five years if they maliciously slander political candidates.
Senator Dick Elliott knows his proposal may be a long shot. The state did away with criminal libel years ago. Elliott says something needs to be done to put an end to over-the-top tactics in political campaigns. He says candidates are fair game for all kind of questions. But he says they should not be subject to slander. Elliott says some people are discouraged from running for public office because of the kind of abuse they can face as a candidate. |

COLUMBIA - People who maliciously slander political candidates would face up to five years in prison if a North Myrtle Beach senator's proposal becomes law.
It might be a long shot in a state that did away with criminal libel years ago, but Sen. Dick Elliott says something needs to be done to end over-the-top campaign tactics. |

The clown is a Liberal Democrat and probably does not care about free speech prtections. Probably thinks McCain-Feingold was a good idea. This is Capt. McQueeg's kind of guy. _________________ 8th Army Korea 68-69 |

They better build some more jails and hire some more guards. _________________ "In a word, I want an American character, that the powers of Europe may be convinced we act for ourselves and not for others; this, in my judgment, is the only way to be respected abroad and happy at home." --George Washington |

Now wait a minute. We're talking about politicians here.
You can call any one of them a low-life subhuman pile of pond scum that isn't worth the cost of a bullet and they can't do anything. Why? Because truth is an absolute defense against libel/slander. _________________ DLI 78

After one monolog Dave and Jay would be facing multiple life terms behind bars.
This has to be an advanced April Fools Joke, nobody would be so stupid as to propose this as an actual law. Or would they?
