Supreme Court upholds photo ID law for voters in Indiana
The Associated Press
Mon, Apr 28, 2008 (7:17 a.m.)
The Supreme Court has ruled that states can require voters to produce photo identification without violating their constitutional rights. The decision validates Republican-inspired voter ID laws.
The court vote 6-3 to uphold Indiana's strict photo ID requirement. Democrats and civil rights groups say the law would deter poor, older and minority voters from casting ballots. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

One small step for stopping voter fraud, one giant leap forward in common sense shown by our high court.

I believe one of the reasons this passed so well is that Indiana offers ID cards for free. If there had been a fee involved, it could very well have gone the other way as a "poll tax" issue.
I would be interested in reading the dissenting opinions. _________________ Why ask? Because it needs asking. |

Good point. I haven't read the opinion, but that could be a factor. States should provide free ID's for voters who don't have DL's or other photo ID's. _________________ "That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoe making and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poor house."
