This from a major Australian newspaper:

Quote:
I know, it was a long time ago. Yet Kerry made his war record the "Shock and Awe" of his campaign -- the story of his life and proof of his fitness to lead. Now this man may be voted president of our critical military ally. Feel safe? Close quote.

My wife and I just came back from my first trip to Oz about 10 days ago. Amazing place, although we only had 9 days and couldn't make it to Perth.

Anyway, while we were out playing tourist, we happened to ride on a state-run "Sydney Explorer" tour bus. At one point, we drove past a certain part of town and the driver wisecracked over the loudspeaker about some French restaurants there and the French in general. He went on to say they didn't deserve our business because "they don't support our troops in Iraq." I had to shake his hand as I got off the bus Very Happy

I'll wager that most Aussies are clearly solid folks that are in the same unpleasant position as those of us in the States: constantly subjected to the whining and protesting of a vocal leftist minority.

Come on down.

The bus driver is most likely what I would call a 'typical Aussie'.

We are also facing a federal election soon, October 9.

The incumbent government is the Liberal Party headed by Prime Minister Howard. He was in New York on 9/11 and we lost quite a few Aussies there. He has become a close friend of President Bush over the last few years, sharing a mutual admiration and trust. It should be noted that the Libs are the CONSERVATIVE party here.

The opposition is the union-driven Labour (left) party which, god forbid, would 'bring our troops home by Christmas'.

Welcome aboard SandiM. You're comments are appreciated, especially since your viewpoints won't ever make it to us through the filter of the MSM.

Thank you for your welcome.

I think the SwiftVets have proved conclusively that in the 21st century the MSM has 'biased' itself into oblivion. They just don't matter any more, they're just not aware of it - YET. Who needs 'em?

I was lucky enough to be stationed at Naval Communications Station Harold E. Holt in Exmouth, Australia. The Australians are great people! Friendly, outoging, and salt of the earth type people! My tour was an enjoyable one because the Australian people made me feel welcome!

We were smart and dumb at the same time, extended for 6 months
for 30 days RR in your country, 6 of us and we did not have to
buy one beer for the 30 days, went outside the "authorized area's"

got our a--'s kicked in the ?"ETEMAU PUB" I think it was half
way for Sidney to Perth, out in the middle of no where so
we could not back down , and the locals advised us the "girls"
were their's (over and out)

thanks anyway

Etamooga pub? Sounds like you ran into some WWll and 'nam era boys. They used to say that the Yanks were 'overpaid, oversexed and over 'ere' (meaning, they got all the girls).

'Over and out' would cost you a slab (of beer) in my outfit (State Emergency Service).

So glad to be bumping into people here who have been in Aus, especially beyond the eastern seaboard cities. Port Hedland, for instance, is something else.

The USofA and Aus are not just military allies, their respective people share the same values. Nice to 'meet' you.

Yeah ... but I wish the two peoples could also share a common language.

I'll never forget as a civilian pulling up to the gate at the Aussie base near
Vung Tau to inquire about spending some MPC for needed stuff at the PX

I could tell that this eight foot tall, fair skinned bloke dressed to take on
the whole bloody NVA army was speaking some form of the King's English.
It just didna make ani sense to ME. Nor could I get my humble desires over
to him orally. But I wasn't about to make a boo rah rah of the situation!
I was very desirous of walking away with my noggin' still in place!!

Fortunately, we settled on the "Italian Method." I frantically waved my hands
in the air. And he reciprocated with a swift horizontal motion of his forearm
across his chest to indicate that if I would SLOWLY move my vehicle, which
had the driver's position on the "wrong" side, in the direction so indicated,
then the Land of Oz would gladly deprive me of my hard earned funny
money. Whew! Survived ANOTHER encounter with our friends from Down
Under. Just glad we had other things in common ... like Porter Pilatuses.

............. ..............

! God Bless our Australian Allies !

! We luv ya each and every one !

............. From a Swiftie turned spook supporter. Shhh .... doan tell a soul .............

We seem to be doing OK. I understood every word you wrote. I have to admit though, some our 'colloquialisms' can be baffling. If ever I can't resist using one I'll include a translation, OK?

Tell me about the Porter Pitaluses!
