My wife and I just came back from my first trip to Oz about 10 days ago. Amazing place, although we only had 9 days and couldn't make it to Perth.

Anyway, while we were out playing tourist, we happened to ride on a state-run "Sydney Explorer" tour bus. At one point, we drove past a certain part of town and the driver wisecracked over the loudspeaker about some French restaurants there and the French in general. He went on to say they didn't deserve our business because "they don't support our troops in Iraq." I had to shake his hand as I got off the bus Very Happy

I'll wager that most Aussies are clearly solid folks that are in the same unpleasant position as those of us in the States: constantly subjected to the whining and protesting of a vocal leftist minority.

if the Brits can wrest control of the peoples' heads from the socialist EU, i woudlnt' midn going there either.

The bus driver is most likely what I would call a 'typical Aussie'.

We are also facing a federal election soon, October 9.

The incumbent government is the Liberal Party headed by Prime Minister Howard. He was in New York on 9/11 and we lost quite a few Aussies there. He has become a close friend of President Bush over the last few years, sharing a mutual admiration and trust. It should be noted that the Libs are the CONSERVATIVE party here.

The opposition is the union-driven Labour (left) party which, god forbid, would 'bring our troops home by Christmas'.

I think the SwiftVets have proved conclusively that in the 21st century the MSM has 'biased' itself into oblivion. They just don't matter any more, they're just not aware of it - YET. Who needs 'em?

I was lucky enough to be stationed at Naval Communications Station Harold E. Holt in Exmouth, Australia. The Australians are great people! Friendly, outoging, and salt of the earth type people! My tour was an enjoyable one because the Australian people made me feel welcome!

Etamooga pub? Sounds like you ran into some WWll and 'nam era boys. They used to say that the Yanks were 'overpaid, oversexed and over 'ere' (meaning, they got all the girls).

'Over and out' would cost you a slab (of beer) in my outfit (State Emergency Service).

So glad to be bumping into people here who have been in Aus, especially beyond the eastern seaboard cities. Port Hedland, for instance, is something else.

The USofA and Aus are not just military allies, their respective people share the same values. Nice to 'meet' you.
